Hobbit trilogy- worth watching?

Not too fussed if it follows the books. £20 for the three in Tesco’s, worth watching or nine hours of chewing gum for the mind?

Not that I’ve seen it, but the book is bad enough – spinning it out for 3 films has tedium written all over it.

The first one is good, the second one is dull, the third one is the best of the bunch so I’d watch 1/3; you won’t really miss much.

Not really, particularly not the 3rd, I was so bored by the end….why wouldn’t anyone just die?!

I’d have to say no. I loved the LOTR books, and enjoyed the films but the Hobbit is just arse ripping to the extreme. They are well made films. But it’s so painfully obvious that they’ve just shoehorned extraneous scenes IN to make three films I just got angry watching.

It took me two sittings to watch the first one, three sittings to watch the second, and I have no compulsion or interest to watch the third.

I was disappointed. If I was picking one to watch it would probably be the first though.

If they ever try to make the simarillion I reckon it’ll be 24hr job.

The films are way too long, no where near as good as LoTRs. I found them quite tedious.

There’s an awful lot of utter shite in it mind. Just proper “Why would they even think that was a good idea” bollocks.

But the washing up bit is in in the book.

That’s neither here nor there. The question is does it enhance the film, or add to the narrative. At all. The answer is no.

For example, take the entire “Tom Bombadil” aspect of LOTR. Fanboys were up in arms when word got out that Tom Bombadil wouldnt be in the film. Completely irrelevant to the films, and the films were much better without them. Pretty much 30% of The Hobbit films were Tom Bombadil scenes.

The 3rd is marginally better. You will decide to do a time check, and disappointingly you will still have an hour of walking to go…… Sweary word. Sweary word.

Just watched the last one, enjoyed it despite it being quite so long. Too long, too much other stuff and all that but fighting and adventuring all the way. Good to kill an evening and much better than a lot of TV.

As for Hobbit; loved LOTR, was really looking forward to the Hobbit films, saw the first, thought ‘meh’, haven’t watched the other two.

If the 20 quid is burning a hole in your pocket give it to a charity instead.

Watch ‘it’ once, just cause there a dragon in it & Martin Freemans great, then forget about it. (& I love LoTR)

My nephews thought they were great, but they are 10 and 7.

They were kind of weirdly pitched I thought, the plot and narrative were definitely aimed at 10 year olds, but the monsters were a bit too scary for kids. Looked like they started off making kids films then got scared and tried to market them for adults.

The last one just went on and on.

I haven’t watched any of The Hobbit films yet but will no doubt give them a go when they’re on the telly. Failed when trying to watch LOTR films again even though I mostly enjoyed them the 1st time.

I’d say that they’re decent enough films, just about worth watching. There are a lot of good bits, along with a lot of filler. If they were cut down to two films they’d probably be brilliant.

I’m concerned – urge to remove own testicles with a spoon, may have nothing to do with Withnail and I.

We need to know: Would watching Space Cowboys a 2nd or 3rd time have a similar testicle lopping response?

needs someone to cut it into one film, remove all the inferred scenes from LOTR appendices and bits of the simarillion. Axe the white orc crap… the dwarfs are far too “serious” and a faster paced film where they go from one calamity to another “frying pan to fire” would help them back to the bungling buffoons of the book. the Elf love bollox can go too.

I love LOTR and adored the Hobbit films too.In fact I just purchased the last one on 3d blue ray so that’s my afternoon sorted . Now where’s the popcorn……….
