Help please -Taking the contents of an ipod classic back into an itunes account?
Wondering if anyone can help.
I have done this in the past and completely ballsed it up . A pal has had their laptop pinched and had to replace it. All of his music is on his ipod classic (ripped from cd rather than purchased through itunes store).
He wants to get all the music back off the ipod and into itunes on his laptop (windows). Last time I tried this years ago on mine it tried to format the ipod before pairing it which would result in losing all the music.
He has not subscribed to itunes match nor done a cloud backup so can anyone please let me know how I can transfer it across easily?

Turn off syncing in iTunes before connecting the ipod, then it won’t try to wipe it.
Edit>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods…. from syncing automatically.
As a emergency backup, you can copy all the music files off the iPod first – copy the iPod_Control folder off it. The files will have all the wrong names, but if they’re tagged you can use MP3Tag to convert the tags into proper filenames.Posted 4 years agoDezBSubscriber
Just tested out a freebee bit of software, Syncios… seems to work fine:Posted 4 years ago
i know you used to be able to do it through contour panel. when you get into the directory of the opid there are a load of different files in there and one of the which i think is greyed out is the music files. remover the file protection and just copy the file of your hard drive. you then open iTunes and consolidate your music files and iTunes does the rest.
I’m sure I’m simplifying it but I’ve done it numerous times in the past but not for quite a while so like i say I’m probably missing something out.
turn of auto syncing first though.

Such a pain in the backside that you can’t just plug it in..
Good old Apple eh?!!
This is due to the music business demanding that Apple disable any ability to easily copy music back from an iPod to a computer, as this could aid music piracy. This is also the reason many ebooks are loaded with DRM.Posted 4 years ago
It’s also the reason I couldn’t borrow an old copy of OSX from my Apple retailer to upgrade my old PowerBook, despite having bought it there, as that is software piracy according to the law.
Don’t blame Apple for limitations imposed by outside agencies.
Especially when they don’t stop third-party entities from creating the means to the job for them, in the same way that Apple have always allowed a workaround by letting users copy their music to cd or DVD, and re-import it into iTunes, although that was mainly to circumvent the DRM imposed by the music biz, since that was dropped in 2010, it doesn’t matter any more.
