  • Help me stop bricking another phone… please.

so, first lockdown I passed on a phone to my sister (moto g5 I think) but didn’t sign out, set up for a new user or nothing and the phone bricked and despite best endeavours we could not recover it.

im going to pass on my Huawei P20 to her but, unsurprisingly, I’m keen to avoid the same mistake.

what do I need to do to remove my details and let her add a new owner account?

    any advice gratefully received!

You need to remove your Google account from the phone *before* giving it to her (Settings -> Accounts).

You shouldn’t have bricked the Moto G5 though. Worst case scenario is that you need to sign in to your Google Account on the Moto and then remove it. Do you actually mean “bricked” as in “won’t start up”, or just locked out?

Bricked as locked out completely despite contact with Motorola/google to get reset….

couldnt manage to sign back in despite several attempts over several weeks.

hence my reluctance to brick a significantly more expensive phone this time a round…

Hi FWIW I just reset my wife’s P20 this week so I could use it.

    Basically, just a factory reset…

    Settings/systems and updates/reset/reset phone

    No problems at all.

Thanks Martin, think I’ll delete my account first come time…

    and then factory reset…
