    Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Would a little bit of weld in the hole be able to be cut easily?

    Don’t really want to buy a new crank!

    helicoil it.

    Ask DanW on SD whether he was able to save his XT’s as he did exactly the same.

    get it helicoiled at a local engineering works would be conventional advice.

    trying to put blobs of weld on a heat treated bit of aluminium sounds like a recipe for disaster…
