My dad has just had aortic valve replacement surgery as an open procedure. The operation went well and he should be home in the next week or so. He’s a fit 75 and is very keen to make the most of what he sees as a second chance. Aside from the shonky valve everything else was fine. It’s a tissue valve so there won’t be the added complication of warfarin.

I know there’s lots of info out there but I’ve seen this forum come up trumps time and again on stuff like this so thought I’d ask.

If you or someone close to you has had such a procedure what stuff helped? What things would you do differently having done it once already?

    All advice gratefully received.

    Thanks.
