    ….and a length of rope!.

If you do go to Hawes, I recommend The Kings Arms in Askrigg for food and beer, you might have to book, not sure.

I have never booked at the Kings Arms – good call though.

Harrogate for any sort of entertainment..the Theatre, Turkish Baths, Lots of decent pubs and clubs.
Hawes for a simple get away…id recommend Yorebridge House Hotel in Bainbridge for a real get away..get a Hottub room and its perfect. There is a fab one overlooking the river. I take the missus a couple of times a year for some kid free time. 😉 £300+ plus a night though 😯

Completely depends what your after and when your going. Hawes is just as busy as Harrogate at the weekend, not my idea of fun!

Hawes might be as busy but it doesn’t really have the choice that The ‘Gate offers.

Saying that, the choice of decent bars and pubs is really poor nowadays in Harrogate compared to what it was like.

Hawes has horrible hills. Harrogate hasn’t.

I walk by it most days when I venture away from the office. Sometimes I linger and sniff at the doorway mmmm….

Harrogate is the place of the devil, only a fraction of it is as picturesque as the very carefully framed pictures would have you believe, and people bigging up its nightlife makes me snort with laughter, after 5pm its a ghost town. Go to Hawes, Wensleydale is beautiful, loads of stuff nearby.

Hawes is pretty small and twee, not a lot to do in the actual town.

That is, actually, in fact, bollocks.

    And so is that.

How can you possibly say that? Harrogate planning department seem to have one rule, anything being built must in no way fit with any of its surrounding buildings.

And having lived in vibrant towns and cities I’m always struck when I come back by how empty Harrogate is on a night, mostly due to their being no pubs or bars around the pedestrianised area.

Not sure what you are referring to there – show me what/where you mean.
