Went to Halfords to look for a replacement card stereo as I want DAB and Ipod compatibility. Well no problem with Ipod’s but they don’t do a single car stereo with DAB.

Anybody got any recommendations as the best place to go to get a decent radio fitted?

I’d heard DAB didn’t work very well in cars for some reason. Don’t know if there’s any truth in that but it would explain your problem.

Which is funny as DAB was originally intentioned for in-car radios!

Go online. Tons of stuff there.

    Halfords is crap.

On the subject of reception in cars – I’ve used an add-on one on the M4 and I have had no reception issues the whole way from Reading to Cardiff.

look in the yellow pages there will be a LCAS (local car audio shop)

my preference would be for blaupunkt.

I had a factory-fit DAB radio in a Vectra, and it was toilet. I’ve now got another factory-fit one in my current Mondeo, and it’s ace. We can draw one of two conclusions here, which one is correct I’ll leave as an exercise for the reader:

    1) Vauxhall DAB is gash, whereas Ford DAB is excellent,

    or

    2) In-car DAB used to be crap, but they’ve sorted out the technology now.

Errr… DAB in car is worse on new JVC units than it was on old ones.
First DAB I bought 7 yrs ago, latest I bought earlier this year.

Reception is dependant on where you live and is variable even down to which direction you’re travelling, ie can be good on the commute to work but crap on the way home.

I think JVC and Blaupunkt are the only people making them at the moment.
