1 year old GSP crosses I think with a Spaniel is looking for a home nearby and is currently in foster care with people we know well.

Anyone got something similar to give an idea of what the Bonkers rating out of 10 is likely to be? It’s supposed to be good with Cats/Dogs and Children.

We do currently have a Wirehaired Vizsla but he is very laid back generally. But still gets regular 2hr XC runs or a day or two a week out all day with the dog Walker mainly for socialising along with regular play/training.

    We’ve two Springers.

One is the most chilled dog I’ve known, he makes Greyhounds look energetic.

The other is the exact opposite… – barking!

We’ve had a male Welsh springer who was a hyperactive nutter.
And I’ve got a mate with a pointer (admittedly English), which is as dumb as a rock.
Not sure what you get if you combine them.

I’m hoping they cancel each other out

We’ve got two GSPs, one a barely domesticated wolf in the woods who barely lifts her head in the house, the other who just trots placidly alongside me outside but is on defcon 1 at home in case the postman tries to murder us or something. People I know with spaniels have similar experiences with different dogs.

I think what I’m trying to say is, like children, all dogs are different and individual, but, again like kids, they’re all fantastic in their own way.

Just get it and have fun!

Thread hijack tell me about your wire haired vizla. Currently top of my list for my next dog in a few years time.

I have a GSD x Spaniel X retriever x bonkers. A wonderful dog, easily the best I’ve ever had. Very good with kids and cats. He still struggles with meeting other dogs head on whilst on the lead tho.

He will run for hours if asked, but the main thing that makes him happy is having a job. I hide his frizbee around the garden (~2 acres), then ask him to find it. His wagging tail could power a windmill when he returns victorious.

Not sure how strong a link the G is in GSD vs GSP mind.

Ours is brilliant. Loving, a Velcro dog but very confident, very sociable, calm, no barking apart from when dreaming or playing, gentle with small kids, a good runner but doesn’t have the top speed you get with smooths.  Good with the cat too.

We have a collie / Springer cross.

Seriously annoying for the first year but has calmed down considerably. Lovely nature and is determined to ensure the cats are where they should be.

Nothing four decent walks off the lead and a play session can’t deal with.

She can count so don’t try skipping a walk either.

I’d heard the velcro effect was a lot less than a smooth haired vizla. Current dog is extremely loyal, aloof and only bonds with a few but isn’t velcro with that.

The Velcro element seems a better balance with Wires, although we purposely tried to condition him to be confident with others without us from a very early age.

I don’t think “aloof” features in his dictionary, along with any definition of personal space. He’ll bond with pretty much anyone at anytime.

He does quite a lot of ‘gazing’ particularly after we’ve been out for a run, usually as he’s wanting a nap and that involves being curled up behind my legs. One thing he really doesn’t like is sleeping downstairs, he definitely won that battle but is quite happy on his own bed, it just needs to be in the same room.
