has anyone fitted a dropper post to a shimano GRX 600 lever.

the after market descriptions online say its a ‘Shimano GRX BL-RX600 Hydraulic Drop Bar Brake Lever’

i can see the higher spec GRX810 left hand lever is a dropper post actuator. but is the RX600 lever?
the basic model RX400 is definately a brake lever only.

just noticed the RX600 is also used on the 2×11 GRX2 kit, so maybe it’ll work

Looking at the Shimano page HERE it seems that you need the RX810-LA lever to operate a dropper.
I assume this due to the sidewards stroke of the lever pulling enough cable.
The RX600-L ‘might’ pull enough cable if you are running a 1×11 drive chain and use the upshift (brake) lever to operate a dropper. It’s an expensive experiment though if it doesn’t work.

thanks @dove1 i was hoping someone was going to pop on and say yes it works (or no).. as you say expensive to test it. although i’ve got a spare cable and hose, so could test a regular cable operated mtb dropper.

Ive seen that someone (Wolftooth?) makes a dropper lever which attaches to the inside of a road brifter, a bit like the old Campy shifter.

That may help as it’s independent of the shifters. Just mount it and then hide the cable under the bar tape…

As above, on GRX 800 there are different levers: left shifter, left dropper and a pure brake lever.

Even if the shifter does pull the right amount of cable, you’ll probably find that whenever you press the lever, it’ll unlock your dropper until you press the downshift button, which would be quite annoying.

You may well be able to gut a 2x ‘600 lever to make it work, but it would be an expensive mess if it doesn’t. You don’t need the ratchet or the inner release lever, just the main brake lever and a cable holder on the inside.

Pretty sure there was a hack for SRAM 2x levers to use them with a dropper – might be worth looking that up for inspiration.

I have the 810LA on my Fugio, operating an XFusion manic gravel dropper – it works flawlessly

I aait then replace the rx600 to the specific rx810LA dropper one

Replace and sell rx600 as new

Or get the adaptor switch

another update, bought a GRX810 left hand lever on evans sales, that was meant to be a dropper actuator, its arrived and the box is showing as BL-RX810L, it only has one lever (ie no inner lever) so it definately isnt a 2x ‘front shifter’ lever

can anyone with the “GRX810 LA” left hand lever confirm if there is a inner lever or if its a solid lever.

looking around the internet and shimano pages, is a bit confusing, sellers arent stating the product codes

There’s no inner lever – you move the entire brake lever blade sideways (as if you were shifting into the big ring on a conventional 2x setup)

I think the non-dropper lever will be fixed solid?

ok, yeah the lever moves a few mm at most, as you say its clearly the brake only version..

Not sure if the Exploded Views help – the brake/dropper (RX810-LA) appears to have a couple of additional parts, but not clear how evident this would be without the lever in your hand. Links to the diagrams below anyway…
