  • Great Glen Way – Okay for a cross bike?

Would the GGW be good for a cyclo cross type bike? I rode it about a decade ago on a mountain bike but now thinking of doing it over one or two days on my Spesh Tricross. Just wondering if the surface is suitable? Don’t mind a few bits of walking and pushing as long as it isn’t too much. Cheers.

I rode a few short bits last summer. I think you’ll be fine.

    Enjoy 🙂

I did Drumnadrochit to Inverness and it would be fine on a cx bike. I think the section before from bottom of Loch Ness is more challenging but more for the steepness of some sections – which, force man of your calibre, Kenny…

Totally fine terrain-wise. You might want some low gears for the steeper hills in the Northern section.

Gee shucks Jimmy, you’re making me blush!

As for the steepness, my cross bike is a triple and has something akin to a dinner plate at the back.

    Thanks for the various replies.

would be fine, from memory. if anything the surface will have improved since the last time I did it, and it remains more high level rather than saw tooth profile at northern end. There are some lovely cheeky sections if you can find them 🙂
