Looking for some guards, the (carbon) frame has enough clearance for proper full length ones (which is what I’m after really) but has no mounting points. It’s a Dirty Disco FWIW. Tyres will be 700×38 (max).

They need to be able to cope with some reasonable farm/gravel/bumpy track-type battering.

Ideas?

Similar issue here – CX race bike though, with 38c gravel tyres, but canti-levers, so gravel huggers are out due to the brakes. Wondering if SKS Raceblade Pro XL’s will just about fit – tyres wider than spec by 6mm

I’ve just put some Zefal G50’s on mine. Not fully tried them in anger, but my mate runs them and she’s been very happy

I started a similar thread a while ago and have since got a front Gravelhugger and the Win Wing on the rear.

Rode through a load of puddles and mud the other day and they worked really well.

Not as well as full guards on a road bike obvs, but way better than my MTB with just a front Mudhugger.

Speedrockers for the win. Got them on my Pickenflick, which has no mounting points.

Have been very happy with the Crud catcheer XL front guard I use on my rigid hardtail with carbon fork.  It attaches via rubber o-rings ad hascoped well over the three or so years its been on the bike.  This is paired with a mudhugger on the rear although the coverage doesnt extend down to the BB area so you still get splashback but think this has been remedied with the latest incarnation.

SKS Veloflexx. Got them on my Tempest and they provide really good coverage. Did have to get the saw on the front to narrow it as it as too wide for the fork until I got a bigger fork – they are very wide as designed for 29ers.

Can you use P clips and regular guards?
Otherwise Speedrockers or Veloflex.

I tried speedrockers on both my DD and my Pick. Meh.

Better than anything else as you get reasonable foot protection at the front but the rear allows the mech and chainset to get filthy and is useless for your mates. The Pick runs good old SKS with p clips at the rear and qr mounts at the front with super velcro under the fork crown.

Another for Speedrockers. I use 38mm tyres and find them perfect.

Depends, do you want to stay completely clean or just concerned about seeing where you are going/a dry arse? For the former, any full guard will clog in UK conditions if ridden on proper off road stuff. If it’s just a glorified winter road bike you’ll be fine. If the latter gravel hugger front and win-wing rear.

Anyone use SKS Veloflexx 55s on their gravel bike?

Ass Saver gravel Win Wing. It’s been excellent for over a hundred miles this week on my road bike. And there are no other mounting options on that bike owing to V brakes and no brake bridge mounting holes.  first picture is the slightly narrower road version  Second is my gilet after three hours out in the wet and slop. I’m very impressed

You better not look at the Mudhugger rear guards mate, unless you’ve got the eye bleach handy.

It’s a shame SKS don’t do a wide version of the Raceblade.

I have the Raceblade XL on my roadie and they work well, and look good.

But they won’t fit proper 50mm tyres, so for the commuter they are too skinny.

Another vote for speedrockers – have them on my Arkose – do the job nicely

I run a Win Wing on the back of a Dirty Disco – I didn’t know you had one too… – it works pretty well from the knees upwards / below saddle level and has the benefit of being rapidly removable and not needing mounts etc, there’s a more robust, second generation version out now I think. The contours of the seat stays mean that it looks like it won’t fit without fouling the rear mech cable, but it’s actually okay. I don’t have a front guard, but I’ve considered the Mudhugger one a few times.
I run a 40mm tyre up front and 35mm at the back, btw, I’m not sure a 38mm would fit without risking rub, but I guess it depends on the sizing of the tyre,

Version 2 of the win wing is black and comes with protective tape for the frame. Otherwise it’s the same and BWD has just reminded me that my cross bike has a seat stay rear derailleur cable, so might not work on that either unless I can squeeze the bracket strap under the cable.

It’s still an awesome piece of kit. And I have tried ALL of them. Including SKS and PDW’s finest.
