I’m currently running Halo Freedom 29er wheels on my 29er/monstercross/adventure bike but I need to save some weight (and fancy something new).

Any recommendations for 29″, non-boost, qr compatible disc wheels, need to be 25-30mm internal width, £300-£500 budget, 1700-1900g the pair.

I’ve seen the Hunt gravel and mtb wheels which are the obvious choice. Also looked at the current Halo range but there’s not a lot of reviews to form an opinion on. I’d welcome any advice on others to look at or anything to avoid please.

Do I even contemplate any of the ebay Chinese carbon offerings?

    Thanks in advance.

    Have a browse through https://www.actionsports.de/en/wheels/custom-wheels/mtb-disc-29/
    or
    https://www.spokesmanwheels.co.uk/

Spokesman has a better listing on ebay than the home website.
If you catch actionsport at sale time there are some good deals usually.
Managed to afford XM481 rims on 240s hubs from them many years ago and wheels still going round.
Never bought carbon so no help there.

There are definitely some good Chinese ebay outfits – used this shop before for CX carbon tubulars at very keen prices (25mm seems to be their widest offering, though).

A disk-brake tub is the simplest wheel imaginable, though, and for racing won’t see big miles – a tubeless wheel that might be doing 10,000+ miles is a different proposition I guess.

Some of the big Chinese companies with more Western-facing branding (e.g. LB) aren’t that cheap these days, and you can get similar offerings from UK importers.

I run Pro 2 evo’s on WTB KOM i25 lights, which run pretty nicely, they’re 25mm internal, but there is a 29mm option too.
