Have just inherited an Android smartphone (HTC Wildfire S). I haven’t got it running with my SIM yet, but it occurs to me that I can use it to reduce the number of “WTF am I” moments as I blunder around various bits of southern France with a scrap of IGN map.

What I’d like is an app that lets me see where I am on free mapping or satelite (I guess Google Maps is good enough for this), and also import and follow a gpx track.

I’m not too bothered about route logging, but navigation and following tracks.

Can anyone recommend something? I’ve tried searching, but there are so many general GPS apps that it’s hard to find info. ViewRanger seems pretty much what I need (with free OpenCycleMap mapping) but has anyone used it?

    Thanks.
