Going back to 3 speed on the front. Chain-set recommendations?
Just wondering, what don’t you like about a double? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone going back to a triple.
And to give you an idea on pricing..Posted 5 years ago
Just wondering, what don’t you like about a double?
I just find it hard to find gears that I’m really happy with when racing it. And i miss the granny for long climbs in endurance races, mainly 24’s and stage races, where with the 2×10 I’m forced into a lower cadence than I’m comfortable with. Also the big ring seems a bit too small for some downhills. If I was just racing XC and spending most of the time in the big ring then I’d probably be a huge fan of it, but for endurance racing it just seems like too much of a compromise in gear choices.Posted 5 years agooldgitMember
I’m sort of with you, but I remember how good it was in drier i.e faster months.
Don’t shoot me down, but wasn’t 2×10 born out of XC racing? It certainly feels like it needs to be riden harder.Posted 5 years ago
Until the marketing men came along I didn’t feel like I was wanting for anything other than what I had.
But I’m a sucker for a bit of marketing, I even bought wheels with hardly any spokes once.
OP Have you tried changing the rings on your double setup to suit you better?or are you just using what it came with?
Just using what it came with. Whats the biggest jump you can have with 2 speed?? Didn’t think it would be possible to change the rings much as the chain would have a massive jump up or down.Posted 5 years agomudfishSubscriber
I would have said stick with 2×10 until I built a 29er and “temporarily” put an old XTR triple on there.Posted 5 years ago
That big gear can be great on long open descents on an XC lite build – and the 22 is vital for me for winching up – at times.
Did anyone mention chainlne? Its not so good in the middle ring – big cog on 2x?
Still got 2×10 on the 26/160 bike (normally 1×10 but it’s SO muddy here right now in the. South Downs).
In Summer 1x form getting that 36×36 up some hills can be hard if traction is poor. And the chainline IS awful in 36-36.
As for 1×11, that must make for some pretty extreme angles.
Maybe the triple will come back 😉
SLX triple will do the job.
