If you ignore the media’s self fulfilling celebrity fixation, there’s several hundred people on the honours list who have got them for years of public service and community activities, for achieving things that have never been done before, for teaching and inspiring others.

It’s dated, it’s traditional, it may grate a bit with all the “right on” crowd, but there’s far worse shit going on to worry about than this.
