Don’t think I’ve ever watched GMBN without fast forwarding then turning off when it gets to the bike cave bit.

It’s always been unbearable for me.

I quite like Blake, his enthusiasm is infectious and he is pretty damned handy on a bike. Plus he is a hardtail fan so that a plus.  Think GCN has the better presenting team though, especially on the group rides / challenge segments.

GMBN, or play sports, is owned by discovery so you’d think they would have massive budgets to hire presenters.

As I understand it the pay isn’t that great. Some-one (I forget where I heard it) suggested it’s about £300 per day?

I was at Dyfi a couple of months ago, and Neil turned up and did a video based entirety around what bikes were in the queue for the uplift, it was shite weather so the uplift petered out after lunch so they buggered off (in a crappy old Peugeot 106) a 5/6 min video turned up a few weeks later. I don’t think that really entails a massive budget.

    Mountain Bike Presenter

I wonder if that’s Doddy’s job – been recruiting for that since March

That’s a decent day rate. There are jobs paying more but not that many.

Yeah thats pretty good really. I would have expected some of the “second tier” pro riders to be chomping at the bit for that sort of gig.

I would rather knock pieces of wood together than whore myself out for that….

And I’m guessing that’s 300£ a day when filming it do they get a cut of the ad revenue?

I find GCN far, far more engaging, entertaining and better-presented, and I’ve no interest in throwing my leg over a road bike.

The only slightly GMBN thing I’ve enjoyed recently was the crossover where they made Hank from GCN do the Mega.

Yeah. I signed up for GCN+ to watch the GT and the mountain bike racing, and I’ve found myself enjoying their features and adventure films, it’s noticeable that the films that could be presented by the mountain bikers they have on their staff; aren’t.

    🤣🤣

like the ad- want an ex pro MTB athlete them sell it on the basis “you’ll be meeting the big names in the sport/industry” won’t they know them anyway from the racing circuit?

Not sure the new tech Doris is that clued up about tech. One of the new presenters is a bit handy on a bike from a recent bpw video. It feels like they have too many people for the handful of channels plus e-gmbn. Surely they could consolidate rather than employing more new presenters.
The channel generally plays in the background on the TV whilst I’m making tea.

Never watched gcn as im not, nor will ever be a roadie. There is some chap on there, Hank I think who does some mtb collabs with blake though which are entertaining.

Remember it’s all about the views. If she’s not quite the guru Doddy is (or even markedly worse but still good enough) but appeals to a wider audience thus brings in more views, it’s a good result.

Anna’s bike seemed massive on that Berm Peaks episode. Not sure why she needs a fox 38 nukeproof giga (or maybe mega, I forget) to get about 1ft in the air on a tabletop.

    OK maybe I’m just jealous.

I think it just all gets a bit stale having to churn out the same content. There’s only so many times you can do a hardtail vs full suss video.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Just seen that Doddy is now working for Mondraker. No official announcement but he is tagged in a post on Instagram wearing a Mondraker t-shirt at the Mondraker dealer event.</p>

He did seem to always like the brand in GMBN videos – even if Nukeproof and Canyon are main channel sponsors.

I don’t see many in the UK, perhaps he’s part of a wider plan to grow the brand domestically.

GCN still banging out the kind of off-road adventure content that should be GMBN’s forte.

I rarely watch GMBN but I can’t put my finger on why. Suppose it all the latest the bobbins.

Blake seems to be genuinely enjoying himself in the videos I’ve seen.

Actually the best vid was Blake and Hank (gcn) riding the Mega. The bromance was brilliant to watch two people just having fun.
I could quite easy watch a series with these two riding around being daft.

Edit: posted then saw same thing three posts up🤦

Just recently discovered GCN (well my son did as he gets more interested in road riding) and watched a few features at the weekend.  The team seems to have a nice dynamic.

The 10 coffee stops one was eye opening as a reformed excess coffee drinker.

Some of the GMBN quick service/fix things videos were good (learned to service my Reba that way).

    Hahahahaha.

    No.

That’s a reasonable suggestion, but I suspect that, speaking broadly, the GCN audience is more interested in suffering on mountain bikes – while the GMBN audience would prefer to watch videos about jibbing on them.

That Himalayas episode was great. Brought back some fond memories of a day ride around Kathmandu and the mental traffic!
