  • Gigs.
  • I spotted Mogwai are touring next Feb. Shame I’ve just split up with a woman who would have loved to go. Might go by myself and have a good time anyway.

Mate, you can’t miss that opportunity. I went to see Pelican years ago on my own, banging night.

Just got back from watching Ash at the Ritz, which is a cracking venue. 21 years since we last saw them. How the hell did that happen?!

They were absolutely awesome. So good to see a band on stage who look like they’re clearly having an absolute ball!! Played the whole of Free All Angels then did a greatest hits set as an encore and were clearly loving every minute of it. Charlotte back on guitar too as a bonus. First gigs she’s done for a long time.

They’re only doing a few gigs on this 21st anniversary tour but if you can get to see them, they’re well worth it. The music has aged well (unlike me)

    Ash at the Ritz

@Binners jealous. Got them on Spotify now!

My last gig was cancelled. Someone died and the traffic situation meant the band couldn’t get to London. I’ve been waiting ages to see them and then the country goes all silly.
Ah well, !!! (chk chk chk) for some dancin and Autechre for some chin scratching coming up in the first week of October.

Another one for Ash, seeing them in London on Sunday. Not looking forwards to the hoards of people up there to see the Queen.

Ears are ringing. 14 bands in 9 1/2 hours. Standouts were W.H Lung and Porij
What a great little festival that was.

Thursday night I took my eldest to see The Bug Club at Boileroom Guildford. I’m seeing them in another month or so as well, and also now just offered to take my niece to see them in Reading. Very good fun.

Went see Yard Act at the Sugermill in Stoke last week, they were great and what and excellent venue. I think I’ll go back to see Sea Power in a few weeks.

I too have Mogwai tickets for December at the Barra’s which should be absolutely storming. Though I’m still suffering some from slight tinnitus after Godspeed You! Black Emperor there a week ago. A sheer wall of sound, complete assault on the senses and one of the best gigs I’ve been at in a long time.

There’s a family outing to Cambridge next Friday to see Frank Turner, postponed from early last year. Slightly excited doesn’t begin to cover it. Frank was our last gig before the 2020 lockdown one.

Anvil next month. Unheard of to see a gig in our home county. Then Anthrax and Municipal Waste in That London. Can’t wait.

Did anyone go and see Ian Brown in Leeds last night then?

    The reviews are… erm…. ‘Interesting’

The best one I read described it as ‘a Jimmy Bullard lookalike murdering karaoke’

He turned up with no band and sang (as much as Ian Brown sings) along to a backing track.

Apparently people were somewhat predictably unhappy at paying fifty quid a ticket to watch that so there was a lot of heckling and throwing pints at him 😂

Came to ask the same thing after I just saw this article

Ian Brown fans ‘gutted’ after singer plays sold-out gig with no band and ‘butchers own tunes’

Craig Finn from the Hold Steady on wednesday, sadly it’s a full band show so won’t be as breathtakingly depressing as his true solo shows but it should still be great

That’s exactly what he did when I saw him, maybe supporting the manics? Absolute ***** tbf. I wasn’t sure if he knew what was happening tbh.

Pixies just announced a U.K. and European tour, tickets on sale Friday… 😎

Pixies tickets obtained! Took four minutes from sales going live to confirmation, thanks to Gigantic. An example Ticketmaster should try to follow, they seem determined to make buying tickets as difficult as possible. 😖

The 1975 booked for Liverpool in Jan, not my cup of tea but kids and missus like em.
Also managed to get tickets for Arctic Monkeys for next June at the Emirates Stadium (I think). That should be a belter.

Just booked a couple of tickets for me and the other half to go see stanley odd in a few weeks. Second time they’ve played in my local town but had already planned a trip up north last time. Looking forward to it

Frank Turner was so good on Friday that I found that tickets were still available for Norwich on Saturday. It would have been rude not to! Me and the daughter went for another go.
Ears ringing a touch and I now need a snooze.

I have a 0 birthday in December and we’re off to Berlin for a short break. We’re seeing Billy Talent, PABST and Frank again on 15 December. Just a bit excited.

got a mixed bunch coming up:
    October
    Katy J Pearson
    Mr Bruce
    November
    Bob Dylan
    Belle and Sebastian
    Next Year
    Yungblud
Was a bit unsure about Dylan but as he’s 81 not going to be many more chances to see him and it’s not like the voice was that good to start with

We’re off to see Snarky Puppy at the Apollo tomorrow night. This has come about because my mate Callum, a retired university lecturer, ageing hippy and all-round lovely bloke is really into his freeform jazz. Me and another mate, Rob, relentlessly take the piss out of him about it, when we’re having a beer and he puts a 20 minute brass section and bongo mash-up on, so he’s only gone and called our bluff and got us tickets for a Jazz-tastic evening tomorrow night

Snarky Puppy are described as an American instrumental ensemble who combine a variety of jazz idioms, rock, world music, and funk

I’m quite looking forward to something different 😀

!!! (chk chk chk) last night were excellent as always. I was a sweaty mess by the end. Never seen so many people dancing at a gig. Fact that the singer kept prowling through the crowd and dancing with people was something to do with it. Proper entertaining. Baba Ali, the support were great too. I bought their cd 😀

Frank Turner last night in Glasgow. He was my Last Show before the lockdowns, also in Glasgow. TBH that gig wasn’t the best but last night was rock solid, with a pretty epic encore. Tonight, more of the same but in a venue about 1/3d the size

@binners my lad (aged 21, studying fine art at MMU) was into snarky puppy but says not listened to them for a while. Still into a bit of jazz though… it’s what all the cool kids like… he goes to weouthere festival nowadays, ask your pal Callum it might be his thing. Saw pharaoh Saunders this year- R.I.P

@Northwind The PA was a little “off” for both the gigs we went to. Leeds there were problems reported with the foldback and Frank’s mic. So much so that he broke things during the last song.
Hopefully the kit in Germany will be better.
