    This is where being an outdoorsy person pays dividends. If you’ve travelled around a bit and used maps for planning or route finding it makes it a lot easier. A bit of general knowledge of where the big places relate to others and you can work it out. Sadly the youth of today seem to rely on Google Maps on smartphones and never have to work thing out in their head.

    Ironically there’s no scale on their ‘correct’ image either. Also if that is just a screen grab of google earth with the presenter overlaid on it, which it looks like, then it’s probably not ‘correct proportions’ either, just not an oblique viewpoint of the country like the BBC use. Representing a 3D sphere surface in 2D accurately is relatively complicated. But the oblique view the bbc use is a bit odd.
