Is there a way that I can work out the potential top speed of a gear ratio before spinning out?

I was trying to work out what the difference would be between a 38×11 and a 40×11 or 42×11 on a 29er.

    Cool….

    38×11 @ 80rpm = 23.8mph
    42×11 @ 80rpm = 26.3mph

Not a great deal in it.

    Cheers guys 8)
