Conversely, I think it is absolutely bob-on. The people it is applied to actively reject any attempt to engage in discourse about immigration, racism etc because it doesn’t sit with their blinkered world view. The level of cognitive dissonance displayed by your average gammon (e.g. “we want control of our borders”/”why can’t I go and live in Spain?”) would make a supercomputer crash spectacularly.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think it was originally intended to be a descriptor for just physical appearance – just when chaps of a certain age and weight get a bit wound up and red in the face and start spluttering and shouting at the sky, they tend to go a bit pink and, well, uncooked ham in appearance.

I agree it’s gone a little beyond it’s initial roots, but I still think it’s a good catch-all! 😉

As we were leaving Mrs P was verbally attacked by a random stranger/patron for her shown interest in the pub’s vegan menu items. I expect their view of what antifa is and yours is somewhat different. They might associate it as a group associated with street violence and property destruction who spend a lot of time and energy looking for people they disagree with to have a fight and throw things at police officers
