    Morning Singletrack-Minds

I am selling a bike and have been asked for its serial number. Obviously nothing to hide as I bought the bike new and have copies of receipt etc, but is there any danger in giving it out? I’ve never registered the frame numbers of any of my bikes anywhere which has got me thinking if I should, or if the person asking could log it under their name?

Where should I even register a frame number?

Potentially someone who has had their own bike stolen and suspects yours might be it.

There should be no issue if you bought it new and the shop still exists and has a copy of the record of sale and you have a receipt?

Yeah there is no issue my side as I have receipts on my online account (Sigma). My only concern was giving out the frame number and it being registered somewhere as I’ve not done so.

Just explain your worries to them then give them the first or last few digits.

Or register it somewhere and then send it to them?

Very common to ask for Bromptons as there is a stolen register. Give them a few digits, or register it first.

Personally I won’t register my bikes on that or any database along with my address. Goldmine for thieves if they can’t keep it secure.

👆that. And it’s only any good if the Police recover stolen bikes of which there is less than zero chance.
