    Anyone able to educate me on Fox Float shock suffixes? A bewildering number of them.

    RL   RP2   RP23   CTD   DPS   etc.

    I’m looking for something for an XC build, light duty, Haldon Blue/Red and wobbling around Dartmoor type of thing.  I’ll never be racing or throwing myself down black runs. Thanks

    The first 4 on your list are old, pre 2020 tech, pretty much everything is DPS, are you referring to rear shocks or forks?

    What bike is it going on, what size is it, is the frame subject to a custom tune from the manufacturer as an awful lot of them are, if not, can you get the tune requirements from the frame supplier?

    Everything form 2019 to 2021 is push to unlock, everything post ’21 is push to lock – w.r.t float rear shocks anyway.

    Rear shock, full suss XC frame (M), 100mm travel front and back. Not looking at remote lockout.

    DPS is decent enough, the rest you mention are all older.

    It’s now been replaced with the Float SL and Float, but you can probably get a DPS cheaper and it’ll work very well.

    Might need to pay attention to the shock tune re. your frame though.

    I don’t believe that’s accurate

    Size/frame wise, the more important info is the mount type (trunion or regular eyelet) and the size of the shock itself. Measured as eye to eye length and stroke length.

    For example, a 100mm spark uses a 165×40 trunion shock at 100mm, a 165 fox shock could also be used in 42.5 and 45 mm strokes, which based on a frames leverage ratio often means 110mm and 120mm as a result.

    “Older” Eyelet mount shocks are still very much used on xc bikes too.

    Like chapaking says, tune will be a consideration, with aftermarket shocks being typically more generic vs some 2nd hand tear offs potentially being  tuned for totally different frame designs. Service cost to replace rebound and compression tunes wouldn’t be cheap
