My Fox piggyback shock needed expensive replacement parts, more than doubling the cost of the service.

Everyone I know has faced similar.

Anyone managed to only have a basic service on one?

My DPX2 still going strong, just had a couple of basic services in 4+ years

I had one, I think a DPX2 on a Pivot. It got nothing except a service every few years and hsd about 9 years use when I retired the frame.

The older DPX2 and the newer Float X (which is superb, the best shock they do) are fine. The Float X2 is a pup and well known for being so.

(The Float X took what was good about the lighter/smaller DPX and added the good things from the Float X2, such as replacing the hard plastic bottom out bumper with the nice big squishy elastomer one).

What parts did it need? And which shock was it? Was it like for like replacements, or upgrading a Float X2 to current spec?

Which company T.. Something ?  They are well known in my clubs circle for upselling on slighly worn parts.

    It’s a float X, just over a year old.
Needs body, sleeve and eyelet. Not warranty as dirt ingress

Treated better than shocks I have had in the past that never needed any expensive replacement parts.

Probably shouldn’t have bothered getting it serviced, just done an air can service

I’ve got a float X, really get on with it. I did do an air can service as soon as I got it though. Had it serviced once so far.

That sounds odd – most of a shock being replaced there. If it were a Float X2 I’d have understood as there are fundamental problems with that. Mine went for a service (Silverfish) and they replaced a lot of bits with 2024 spec stuff (new trunnion bit / different seals / new Kashima bit at ) – although they did that within the standard service cost. It was  secondhand shock out of warranty so I thought that was ok.

Surprised if the float x needed that.

My 2020 X2 was terrible, every time it went to TF Tuned to be serviced it was costing £250

The last time i decided to send it to FOX instead, again it needed lots doing but they upgraded the internals to the 2024 internals and its been absolutley fine since then

Do they still return the original parts to you? Hopefully you can see the reasons for the change when you’ve got them
