I received some fox flexair gloves from bikecomponents.de last week. Most I’ve ever spent on gloves, usually get them from the bargain bin, but i needed some and was ordering quite a few items.
Super comfortable but they split on the seam on the very first ride.
Super hacked off. Do you suppose I have to send them back to Germany or is there a UK fox place I could deal with?

Had dozens of Fox gloves over the years – you’ve been unlucky I reckon. Back to the retailer is the obvious route, nothing stopping you contacting Fox Europe though

Never had any issues with Fox gloves. Been using them for years with zero issues.
Just send them back and get a refund or replacement.

Dirtpaws rock, my kids have them and I got a pair a few years back and love them.  Bit hot in summer mind.

I’ve used fox gloves for years and they’re pretty on/off, like there’s been 3 different versions of Sidewinders in that time and one of them was absolutely awful. And in the current range, there’s 2 variants and even though they look identical the sizing is different. But when they’re good, they’re really good.

Never used them used Thor though excellent and dont cost the earth either.

Yup, variable quality and I’ve experienced an almost identical failure. Replaced in a heartbeat by Offbeat bikes in Ft William who are excellent.

Hate Fox. Quality isn’t great, but they’re too tight for my wrists and one of sons has the same trouble.

I had a pair of Ranger gloves that did that last month. Thought about just repairing them myself, but this was the first ride, so sent back.

Last 3 pairs have been fine for me.

Endura gloves (and their shorts and trousers) are really shite, first ride and the stitching comes away at the ends.

Slightly off-topic, but as you’re all here:

What size gloves do people wear? I ask because I’m a smallish man – 152cm – and mostly in proportion. I usually wear small or medium clothes. However, with cycling gloves and mitts I always have to buy large or extra large.

I do like gloves a bit looser than some, but even so I find this odd. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Ive not really been happy with gloves from any brand or about 8 years or so now.

This trend towards minimalistic gloves with minimal seams, no armour and thinner materials mean that these days they’re basically worn out after a year. At £30 a pop, its a bit rich for a consumable. Fox at least reliably fit me well, but I really would appreciate someone making and otherwise light/medium weight gloves that has sufficient protection across all the knuckles and two outboard fingers to prevent the incessant removal of thorns.

I had some Royal racing gloves that were alot like you describe , rubberised arnour , soft snot wipe , silicone finger tips , enough padding without feeling like oven gloves

I went onto JT Racing gloves……really nice….but they seem to have disappeared (the brand, not my gloves)…..so back to Fox 🙂

I’ve never had much luck with Fox gloves.

I had a pair of DH gloves with knuckle protection, they looked the business, but they fell apart in a couple of uses. Didn’t like being washed.

I’ve got a pair of Ranger gloves now, they’re okay, nothing special as long as it’s dry, but they’re appalling in the rain, dangerously so, in their wisdom they’ve put a bit of silicon rubber on the braking finger and shifting thumb, which is like telfon coated ice when its wet, I never thought you could slide along a brake lever, but you can indeed and it’s really quite unnerving.

I think they’re another US/Cali brand that assumes everyone stays at home unless it’s warm and sunny out.

I’ve found that Fox ‘tribute’ gloves from China bought on eBay have generally been better than the genuine article.

TBh the antifreezes are the only mtb-specific winter glove I’ve ever owned that didn’t suck. The sidewinder polar is… weird, since it’s insulated but also vented, but it’s a great autumn glove (warmer when you stop than when you ride can actually work)

Completley agree … total hit and miss.
Every time I think I found a durable one and buy another set the one of the second pair fall apart at the seams.

Stopped using Fox years ago, the gloves were OK but nothing more, the jackets and shorts were garbage though. I had 3 jackets fall apart within a few rides and shorts tear apart on the first rides, no crashing or anything, just a general bimble. Moved over to Giro for gloves and find them spot on, fit and quality is good and they last really well, just gutted they don’t make the Hoxton merino glove anymore, best I’ve ever owned and perfect for 3 seasons as long as it’s not too wet. 7Mesh have me covered for pretty much everything else. Pricey? Yes. Incredible good and crazy durable. Oh yes. Big outlay initially but worth it in the long run.

I’m with @crikey on this.  Get them sewn.  I’ve just done it to my fox gloves that had come away at the wrist seam. It takes 5 minutes. Seams (😉) a waste of time and energy sending them back.

Well a good result. I contacted the german shop, who are very german, no english comms at all in the emails & they sent me a postage paid returned label.
Return process was easier than some uk retailers.
They are now sending me a new pair of gloves which will hopefully last more than 1 ride 🙂

My fox dirt paws lasted about 2 years but the thin mesh material on the sides of the fingers keeps dissolving / disintegrating now. Repaired them a few times but thought time for some new ones.

Couldn’t really find identical replacements in stock anywhere so thought I’d try endura as previously I had some of their gloves that lasted me 3 years or so. They split in 2 places in 4 rides – absolute junk. You can see the stitching isn’t very high quality on them.

CRC refunded me without even having to send them back – just with photos of the failures.

I’ve now replaced them with 100% Cognitos on the basis my 100% Briskers have been good so far. Think they’ve had a year of riding with commuting all weathers and going on the mtb in the winter when it’s been too cold for the Dirtpaws.

P.s I wouldn’t be sewing up a pair of gloves that split in the first few rides. Doesn’t bode well that all the other seams are going to hold and it’s the principal of the thing too!

I do really like the light weight feel and minimalist palm of the flexair gloves but agree, the seams love to split far too easily. Lucky to get a year out of them!

Definitely seems like the more popular they’ve got the lower the quality has got.
That said, Fox gloves were never a great fit. XXLs were still tight in places on my mits.

But, you must all know by now, the secret to long glove life is just to buy lots of gloves, they’re always in the sales! When you have 5 or 6 pairs, you don’t wear them each enough to knacker them 😀

I like dakline gloves.they seem to last well and the fit is great.wear mine year round.current two pairs I am using are about 10 years old.they have small holes in them but work fine.

See my other thread on this. My Fox Ranger gloves have some silicone on the fingertips that becomes slippery as f*** once wet meaning breaking is a horrible experience. Utter rubbish.

I bought a pair of Fox Dirtpaws a few years back and they were everything I ever wanted in a glove. Lost one in the woods by leaving it on the roof of my car, bought a replacement pair and almost everything about it has changed. Hotter, less padded, tighter, not as well made. Very disappointing to be honest.

Endura MT500s were more comfy. But didn’t last as well.

I’ve still got a brand new smart looking fox jersey from a few yrs ago that is an xl though fits like a medium.

still want to wear it tho sadly cannot.

cost me £45 for that privilege!!

That’s a shame, I recently purchased some Fox Defender Kevlar shorts and they put my TLD stuff to shame in terms of fit, finish and durability. I was going to purchase some Fox gloves based on my experience with the shorts!
