So I’ve got a 2013 34 and am looking at upgrading to the 2014 Cartridge (now £50 fitted at Mojo) or selling it and getting a new RCT3 Pike. Has anyone had he chance to ride either yet? Any views?

Not ridden either but I’ve pondered a similar question. I wonder if the 34 would be too flexy going from a 36 but can I fit an avalanche cartridge in a pike?

    That’s stopping me going 650b.

34 is solid much better than a 32. The 36 is solid but having gone to a 34 I reckon it was always overkill unless your doing a lot of very dh stuff

I’ve ridden a 34 and was unimpressed. I know people who’ve got and ridden some Pikes and they’re VERY good. As good as a BOS deville or not far off sort of good.

Onzadog….I had 36 floats on my Dune, now have 34’s on my Cube 650b and dont notice ant flex or difference in that way just a bit too linear in descend mode (IMO)2013 model.

Cheers. I’m just looking at the 34 as a chassis. Hence wanting something that will take an avy cart.

Pikes are very good, not sure you’d need to update the cartridge though.
34 CTD with upgrade will also be good, £50 is cheaper than Mojo said it would be when I asked this morning, to customers that is.

From a non-owning desirability POV – Pike hands down.

How much are Pikes likely to settle down at price wise?

Think I’ll wait for Merlin and On one to get ’em!

Even the RRP is pretty reasonable for one of the lightest and best 160mm forks. Far better than the £1000ish price Fox ask for their top end fork.

mmmmm xfusion slant is nearly half the price for similar specs anyone ridden both? or slant vs 34?

The trick is to get the fox for the price of the Xfusion 😉

If that review is owt to go buy, just get the X-fusion’s for the price of the X-Fusion…

or half the price of new Fox even – http://www.freeborn.co.uk/x-fusion-slant-fork-2013-8454

Are the pikes position sensitive or speed sensitive?

I think its just the RCT3 version that gets the new charger damper. Merlin are renowned for selling weird and wonderful OEM versions of the fork so be careful and check before you buy.

The black stanchions on the pike are enough to sway it for me. A mate has some on a tall boy and they look lovely, he has only had a couple of rides on them so they arnt fully set up but so far he says they are good.

They are a little narrower than lyriks so possibly not as stiff in terms of twisting in ruts etc but I would choose them over 34s every day.

I’ve just bought the Slant for my Transition Bandit and so far they feel pretty good. They don’t feel as plush (or dive prone) as the Fox 34 I was test running but feel quite similar to the Lyrik that they are ultimately replacing, and for the price it’s hard to argue.
