Basically why I never renewed my subscription Colin.  That was a few years back….

Either one of two things has happened, the company is underfunded and badly run so the forum upgrade was underfunded and badly implemented and they are hiding under the duvet hoping it all goes away OR they’re off doing other things and they don’t give a crap about the forum anymore and won’t put any money into it’s as they are bored of it – if they shut it they’ll lose all the subs straugh away so they may as well let it fade away while they work on that other stuff so the money stays coming in for a while.

They don’t care about the Premier people or the free users, there’s no distinction. The whole site is getting more Facebooky all the time and I reckon they are going after the new generation with clickbait headlines to bring in cash from the social media generation.

I hope it doesn’t fade away as it’s part of the furniture now. Wouldn’t know where else to go for this kind of chat, advice and abuse.

More magic happening to the front page.

This kind of sums up what’s happening to my mind. A search box, for everything except the forum, coded in white caps on light grey, hidden at the bottom of a page which seems to scroll down forever, filled with news articles that nobody will read.

I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I was glad for a site-wide search (EXCL FORUMS).

The value of the site to me is in the knowledge on the forums, not the clickbait headlines.

EDIT tried the forum search. Formatting all over the shop, really messy and the first result is from 7 years ago (I searched for “forum”). Well that’s really useful. 🙄

My mobile just advised me of 24 pop ups blocked accessing 3 pages on here. It never advises me on any other site. I’m guessing there’s a reason.

Why has the sale page post ordering changed? The old method, ordered by initial post date, made looking for new items super easy. Now, ordered by most recent post, ends up in a dogs dinner of new and old. Just wondering if there was a reason, am I missing something?

Dammit! I just came on here to thank the overlords for that fix that we’d all been crying out for! A faded favicon (didn’t know they were called that!) that makes it look like the Chrome tab has been washed at too hot a temperature.

Just remembered that I’ve got the YSlow extension for the browser so I ran it on this site and it came back as an average  ‘D’ on a scale of A – F. Not good for a commercial site. YSlow is a reporting mechanism so at least you know where to aim your efforts.

TBF most tests came back as A but there were sufficient Fs to bring things down, some of them are quite simple like “Put JavaScript at the bottom of the page” and “Minify JS & CSS” others like “Use a CDN” aren’t so simple though the stated aim of moving to one of the cloud servers would start on that.

Can I just say that the site works absolutely fine for me using Chrome on Windows 10, Chrome on Android 6 on a Sony Z3C and a Nexus 7, and on Android 7 on a Galaxy S8? Could be a bit faster, but apart from that I have no issues, and it’s more usable than the old version. Don’t know what you are all whinging about.

The page jumping about is ad insertion causing a page redraw. There will be a holder page element with zero size then the ad service sticks the advert in there and resizes it. I’ve learnt to wait about ten seconds before trying to click on any link to a thread

Yeah apart from those nine things, though, you’d have to say it’s working fine.

Don’t like to join the chorus of disgruntlement but it’s in a bit of a state – didn’t think it was possible to make the quote function worse but hats off they managed it. Completely mangled threads from the past is potentially the worst thing – don’t know if this can be rectified.

Both theme and text editor are, I think, WordPress related so it shouldn’t be a big job to sort either, basically pick another one. Not sure why the text editing wasn’t thoroughly checked beforehand though.

Is anyone else experiencing the site not updating for longish periods of time? A page refresh returns a 200 but just returns the same response for ~30 minutes. Happens even if I try load in incognito. Seems to happen randomly and infrequently. Don’t think it’s my network as my phone on the same wifi loads updated content when this happens on my PC.
