Will be up in Fort William soon with the family (no bikes unfortunately) and could do with family friendly suggestions for activities and places to eat out at that a 4 & 6 year old might enjoy too. Hoping that the Singletracktripadvisor family can help! Restaurant suggestions are also very welcome!

You could go bowling.

Head to the Gondola –
Go Ape (or similar, not sure if it’s actually GoApe).
Up the Gondola, walk to view points at the top, get food at the top station with the family.
Watch people coming down the DH course
Rent bikes and do the blue trails / pump track would be an option.

Also – spot the steam train going over Glenfinnan viaduct (of Harry Potter fame)
Neptune’s Staircase – lots of locks on the canal with cafes, good views etc.
Coran ferry for a wee boat trip?

Steam train to Mallaig
Do a boat trip to see the seals and whatever else is about.
Gondola (we didn’t do this as the weather was crap)

The climbing wall Three Wise Monkeys in FW is great. Possibly good if the weather is filthy.

Sammys fish and chips in Corpach is the best chippy.

Grog and Gruel pub in FW is family friendly food.

The waterfall walk at Inchree (follow the small road past the Inchree bunk house, by Coran Ferry).

Bit of a drive but the beaches at Arisaig are amazing.

Trip down to Seil to cross the Bridge Over The Atlantic. Cross to Easdale and go stone skimming on the old quarry that hosts the world stone skimming championships. Take a boat trip out to see the Corryvreckan whirlpool

Upper Glen nevis.

About a mile of walk along a gorge top (all path and structure where necessary)

One you get there you can swim in the river pools safely.

Feels like an adventure, is stunningly beautiful.

Some good suggestions here I’d also recommend The Geographer for family friendly eating. The Nevis Centre has a soft play area as well as a bowling alley. Neptunes staircase is worth a visit. Treasures of the Earth in Corpach used to be good though I can’t vouch for it in the last 10 years. The beaches at Arisaig are very likely to be mobbed.

Oh apologies, I got confused and though you were in Oban, Seil might be a bit far sorry

Just a walking the area, picnic and enjoy the great outdoors and the freshest of air. Not always the case of got to do this, got to do that which you can pretty much do at home.
That is as long as the midges arent eating you to bits 😆

Corran Ferry as footpassengers = free, lovely wander on the other shore by lighthouse, usually with seals watching you, cuppa in the pub.

A big day out – the beaches *somewhere* out west are totally amazing – choose a good weather day and head west. Arisaig, Morar, Kentra/Acharachle/Singing Sands, Glengalmadale (shh, this one is secret, righht?)

A day out on Lismore – take the bikes on the wee boat from Appin (amazing food here) and pootle on empty lanes.

Eriska – one of the few islands with a bridge. Park before on road from Appin and walk on, we have seen otters twice here.

Glencoe Lochan trail is a nice walk, kiddy friendly too.

Some ace waterfalls in the area if it has been wet – Eas Chia-Aig at Loch Arkaig is nice for a paddle/swim, plus walking trails by loch.

DON’T bother with Glenfinnan – every other Harry Potter and instabanger poster heads there and it is mayhem…

Our’s enjoyed Corpach Gem Museum on a wet day when younger.

Upper Glen nevis.

Nice walk but take care. Two cows fell in the gorge recently and had to be butchered in situ before they could get them out.

Midges are way down so far this year.

As others have mentioned, upper Glen Nevis is lovely, and you can scare the other half by threatening to take the kids over the wire bridge. To be fair, at 4 & 6 they might be too small to reach the ‘handrails’. But lots of room to run around on Steall Meadows, with river to play in

The “Harry Potter” train is worth seeing if you like that sort of thing but perhaps better from the station at Corpach or the foot of Neptune’s stair case where it has to cross a bridge at 5mph. Corpach is a walk along from there and you can watch the boats locking through.

Also the beer was pretty decent.
