Thanks to all who replied to my original thread, greatly appreciated 🙂 In the end we went with Silverpigeon’s suggestion of the Yorkshire Dales, staying at the New Inn. Not a bad accommodation option, though maybe a little pricey for what you get (large room, but with twin beds, shared facilities, poor heating…) Food was tasty enough and they have some good local ales & bitters on tap.

The Mountain Bike Livery out the back is very good, Jon is a top bloke and helped us out with route maps and local advice. He’s sold the pub side of the business, he just runs the Livery now, you pay £4 a night for storage and the use of the workshop, as well as his invaluable route maps and advice of course! 50p for a bike wash if you need it. All in all good value I reckon.

The riding was good, straight after we arrived we did a loop Jon called The Paddock, about 16km mainly on bridleways and a bit of road; this was a good intro for Mrs Psychle as it showed her that she could climb hills with some perseverance 🙂 And the scenery was nice (though ’twas a tad chilly in the afternoon/early evening!)

Sunday saw Mrs P taken down with the dreaded vomiting/diarrhoea belly virus that’s sweeping the nation, so she stayed at the Inn to be near amenities, poor thing was really suffering. She insisted I go off for a ride anyhow, as we’d driven 4 hours to get there, so I headed off on the Barden Moor loop, all in this was around 40km through some lovely scenery, didn’t see another cyclist either though there were a few walkers about (not many, I think it might’ve been a bit cold perhaps?). Also spotted my first grouse in the wild, which I found kind of cool (though probably totally par se to you Brits 🙂 )

I would recommend the Yorkshire Dales as a good introductory area for non-riders, it was a good weekend and I think Mrs P is interested in doing more (I’ve actually convinced her that a camper van is required to do further UK exploration!)

Anyhoo, just wanted to post a brief report on my weekend,(just in case anyone was interested 🙂 ). Thanks again for the advice, appreciated. Finally, here are a few pics that took my fancy as well:

Nice report Psychle! Good to have feedback and the Yorkshire Dales is such a lovely area. Hope Mrs P is on the mend and she will instead get the mountain-biking bug, much healthier!

Don’t forget the Swinley ride this Saturday if you’re around.

Ah, psychle- shame. We had a space reserved in the van for you, if you’d wanted it.

For future reference; My carer lives just up the road from you, in Stoke Newington, and I’m over East, and we’re trying out the idea of renting vans out, as he’s thinking of selling his car (he only really uses it when we go biking, anyway, so it’ll be cheaper to rent, over a year). So, you’d be more than welcome to jump in the van with us, on future trips.

Aw shucks Rudeboy, thanks for thinking of me 🙂

I’m sure I’ll get an opportunity to take you up on the offer, hopefully in the not too distant future; have a good time this weekend, I hope the weather holds up for it 🙂

No worries, psychle. But I’m sure there will be future trips, and the van idea means it’s less hassle loading up and stuff, plus we can take plenty of spare clothes, tools, etc.

I thought the sheep was particularly alluring. 🙂
