    Specifically the stage when it passed through Hampshire. Did they ascend or descend in Wherwell?

    That wasn’t the first. First was the Plympton bypass in 1974.

    Correct re the bypass!

    They climbed Wherwell, CG. It’s on one of my local gnarmac routes, short sharp climb!

    @ beej – really, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the link, good to see the actual route but can’t believe it was 1994. First time I’d ever seen a peloton, amazing stuff.

    @ Cap’n – definitely short and sharp, wouldn’t want to descend that! Sometimes rode through Wherwell but turned off to head for Longstock.
