First ever night ride – LOVED IT!
good stuff. It is great fun and you can absolutely spank it down rural roads at night because you can see when cars are coming from a mile off. If you’re going through some woods I wouldn’t look behind you and those noises are definately not werewolfs or large beasts out to get you!Posted 4 years ago
So i went on my first ever night ride with a couple of friends yesterday. Just a couple of trails that i’ve done regularly by day but wow, how much fun? It’s a great way of making even the more boring sections a lot more fun! Dare i say made the trails come alive(tm) even with old fashioned 26″ wheels! Really slippy/slidey/muddy though
Definately reccomend it if it’s not something you already do, bring on winter!!
Lights wise total spend was £40 ish with a x2 solar storm on the bars and a magic shine copy ebay special on my helmet. Seemed a good combination, nice spread from the x2 and a good spot from the helmet mounted light. Rode for 90 mins with no loss of light using their standard batteries.Posted 4 years agodannyhMember
Welcome to the dark side. Or the dark side of the light side. Or whatever.
It’s a total win-win. Livens up familiar trails, opens up far more riding possibilities during the winter if you have other commitments and gets you fitter trying to out-ride those werewolves (aka mice).

I’ve never gone “night-riding” for the sake of riding at night.
I ride at night cos thats the only free time I have, and it just so happens that for 6 months of the year, that means riding in complete darkness.
Surely, if you’re doing it for the buzz of riding in the dark, you don’t need bright lights, the darker it is, the more surprises you’ll get…Posted 4 years ago
Here are my lights:
Hopefully that works!
I’m not sure i’d go so far as to choose night over day but needs must and a ride is always better than staying in!Posted 4 years agozeesaffaMember
I remember the same buzz when I started night rides earlier this year… still love it now!
Although like Bandito above – night time is the only time I get chance to get out really so it’s a good thing I enjoy it!
Let’s see if I can MTFU and keep at it when it gets cold…Posted 4 years agobigbadbobMember
Ride on your own, have a couple of near misses, and you will not LOVE IT so much…
but… other nights, you will love it. I have to ride on my own 🙁 my usual riding buddies don’t want to night ride, so I have a mixed bag of good and scary bad night rides, I saw a badger last night. Watch out for owls riding right next to you or right in front of you.Posted 4 years ago
Have fun though, beats sitting on the couch watching rubbish on the TV.
