As in, films you like but that wouldn’t be harmed by a remake. So, for example, you couldn’t remake Ferris as that would be tantamount to blasphemy, but a remake of this wouldn’t be too much of a bad thing,

Could even have Toby Jones playing the role his father did in the original.

I much prefer the second Thomas Crowne Affair over the first.

Keeping it Brosnan, I’d like to see a remake of the Tailor of Panama but more as a tense spy thriller than the comedy the original one was.

Set in Accrington, with Peter Kay and Dennis Waterman.

At the end of Firefox they promised us Firefox Down. Still waiting.

The one I’m scratching my head at is the proposed remake of The Matrix. All but the first film were shit. Are they really that low on ideas in Hollywood?

    Lethal Weapon.
Set in Oswaldtwistle with Simon Armitage and David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd.

I don’t feel we should overexpose the Kay/Waterman thing at this stage.

Dune without the ropey special effects and Sting

World War Z with the original ending, but there’s a sequel coming for that.

^ most films involving Sting could be improved by a remake without him. Stormy Monday, Brimstone & Treacle, Plenty, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels – need I go on?

I’m going with Day of the Jackal & the Odessa File; both over forty years old and with a good story.

Not a remake but I’d love some more Strange Days.

But both pretty much perfect, tbh.

They can give The War of the Worlds another go. Two major film attempts that failed to do the book proper justice with a proper period setting (and the less said about other straight-to-video attempts the better).

But I’d rather someone with a brain cell moved into Hollywood and thought up something new and original for a change, or at least an exec who’s prepared to take the risk.

There’s been talk of a dambusters remake for years, Peter Jackson in charge. Not sure what happened to it though.

No, no, no! The original is one of my favourite films and is unlikely to be improved. Certainly not by Hollywood.

And, it’s already had a terrible remake.

    Spider-Man could do with a remake…

Hah. The irony is, spiderman and other comics really do have tons of alternate tellings and versions that could legitimately be made into parallel movies, rather than reboots/remakes. But every time they make spider man, which is every 72 hours, they seem to want to remake the same spider man.

Naked lunch could stand a re-make. The Cronenberg one was fine, good effort, but just felt a bit constrained IIRC. I think modern film-making techniques could let it all hang out a bit more.

OTOH – Honestly don’t think you could better Lynch’s Dune. Getting that book down into a single film basically can’t be done, but it’s hard to see a modern CGI SciFi treatment coming close to capturing the spirit of the book like that film did.
