Unashamedly inspired by the film/tv series thread, but what film/s have you never seen despite really wanting to see them?

    Godfather.

It sounds right up my street. But i dont ever seem to want to commit such a chunk of time to watching it. Even tho i could do it in a few chunks. Bit strange really.

A friend of mine watched it for the first time on Weds after meaning to for years. She managed to stay awake during the whole film which means it must be pretty good.

I really fancied watching Ex-Machina when it came out 8 years ago. Still not got round to it.

    Dead Man’s Shoes
    Vertigo
Blade Runner – I watched the sequel the other day, which probably ruins it for me..
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Deliverance

There’s also a list of ‘great’ films I’ve never managed to make it all the way through, including:

    Apocalypse Now
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Pretty much anything Woody Allen.

    Godfather.

Weirdly, went into that thinking it would be heavy-going. Time just flew by. The third one can be omitted without losing anything much, though.

    Dead Man’s Shoes

One of the few films I have watched and would highly recommend it.

I’ve never seen Pulp Fiction but not sure I want to. Not sure it can live up to the hype and no-one like disappointment.

Apocalypse Now, 2001 and Blade Runner are the “this is meant to be an absolute classic” films that I’ve watched where I’ve subsequently realised that I’m never going to get that time back again.

I should probably dip out of this thread 🙂

My worry about Pulp Fiction is that its style has been copied, both in other films, and in memes so much that its novelty value and impact have been diminished over the years.

Could be wrong though, give it a go!

Pretty sure that’s on telly next week.

Nil By Mouth – was just reading about that yesterday – Gary Oldman’s only directed film. Wonder why he didn’t do any more. I’ve never watched it cos it just looked a rather miserable (domestic violence isn’t my idea of entertainment tbh)

My 20 year old son watched Pulp Fiction – thought it was great and went on a Tarantino binge after. Good lad 🙂

I’ve caught up with a few of the movies mentioned above over the last 18 months or so due to my daughter getting a Netflix sub.

I’ve actually got it on DVD and I still haven’t seen it! (it’s the trying to commit to watching a foreign language film with sub-titles that keeps stopping me – we don’t get to watch much stuff and when we do, I want to sit back and be entertained (daft I know).

Ooh, I’ll keep an eye out for that! Which channel is it on please?

Schindlers List, Alien, 2001, Nil by Mouth, Scum are all on my list of things to watch and have been for, well decades!

Not the cheeriest list of films to watch with MrsReady to be fair..

Now I have seen that and love it (so I assume I will love the equally bleak Nil By Mouth)

    He’s guilty, btw. 🙂

    Schindlers List

I’m not sure ho wmuch I wanted to watch this but I was definitely intrigued – watched it earlier this week on the BBC – Blimey, I wasn’t expecting that.

I followed it up last night with All Quiet On The Western Front just to round off my week of feelgood films!

    Never seen the Godfather trilogy…

Another one I have seen (well half of) and will never get the time back was Citizen Kane – so utterly boring.

Is the Producers any good (Mel Brooks)? Think films that you know the outline story of, without ever having seen them, must be classics of some sort.

So IHN doesn’t like Shawshank, Apocalypse Now, 2001, Blade Runner, Withnail and I and Pulp Fiction. Those are films from widely separated genres and mostly quite rightly described as classics. I need to know what IHN rates as a great film. 😀

( I watched 2001 a year or two ago. It hasn’t aged well, imo, especially the Reggie Perrin section. 😀 )

I have to admit that I’ve never seen a single Rocky Film. I feel like I should have, but they just don’t appeal to me.
About 20 years ago I went through a phase of watching so-called “classic” films I’d never seen before (Resv Dogs, Godfather etc) and was mostly disappointed. So, be careful what you wish for. Sometimes the hype around a film just leads to disappointment.
    Did enjoy Pulp Fiction though.

Ah, one of my catch-up classics. It had it’s moments, but the constant overwrought screeching and shouting dialogue really got on my tits.

Yeah, that about sums Shawshank up – quite good.

Ah sorry! looks like I was mistaken. Sure I saw it listed somewhere!

    What can I say, I’m a maverick 🙂

To be fair, Shawshank and Pulp Fiction are okay, just not the ‘greats’ that their reputation suggests.

Withnail is, however, possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen.

I need to know what IHN rates as a great film.

Fair enough. From ones mentioned here – Rocky, Downfall, Dead Mans Shoes, Godfathers 1 and 2 (not seen 3).

As for others films that I think are genuinely brilliant (for different reasons, as I’d think was obvious)

    – Local Hero
    – Jurassic Park
    – Goodfellas

never been available for streaming or purchase (in the UK) AFAIK. Don’t know why! I had to torrent it recently when I fancied watching it (it’s fine, I own the VHS somewhere) 🤔 It’s right up there with Goodfellas. Maybe better?

I’d agree with most of them (esp Local Hero) but I was hoping you’d come out with a Confessions film or similar. 😀

Which is ironic, because pretty much everything good about Pulp Fiction is copied from other films.

I haven’t seen half the films mentioned in this thread and probably won’t. Everybody should watch Godfather 1 and 2 though. Nobody should watch 3.

I finally got around to watching Natural Born Killers on Prime Video a few weeks ago, even for Tarantino, I found it a bit out there… But then it’s been years since watching the likes of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs etc.

One I’m aware of wanting to get around to watching which I missed at the time, is another available now on Prime Video, namely Starship Troopers.

Probably millions of others, but can’t think of any others off the bat!

big fan of both Heinlein (who wrote the book) & Verhoeven who I think both captured the essence and made the movie the complete opposite which is quite something 😂 I think as a work of satire it’s better than Robocop although obviously not as iconic, but similar in that at first glance it’s just at action movie but of course in reality it’s much cleverer than that.

Joker, I bought it on itunes downloaded it, I am sure it is great, but every time I sit down to watch it decide I don’t want to be depressed tonight and watch something more entertaining instead.
