We have done “Detectorists” and are part way through “Stella” – Series 5.

Any other suggestions for feelgood family viewing (no kids, just us and mother in law a good sport aged 90)

Would generally like to avoid American soaps, although could go back to Frazier, and we really enjoyed “Northern Exposure” a while ago,

12 Monkeys. Time-travellers go back to try to work out the origin of a mysterious virus which has wiped out the planet. Four series…

    Ok, maybe not. 🙂

Came here to recommend Detectorists. Ah well.

If you can find it, Early Doors is brilliant.

The West Wing gives a glimpse into a place where politicians and the people around them are really trying for the greater good.

Better Things is excellent, Series 1 to 3 are on iPlayer.

Not Deadwood, and particularly not the cholera episodes.

I am thinking of getting the ‘cheers’ box set to pass some time.

This, all day long, series 1 is the weakest, bear with it, it gets so much better.

I really like Green Wing from a few years back.

    Quirky hospital comedy.

Slightly off topic in that it’s not a comedy, but the BBC’s adaptation of Bleak House kept us entertained for a few days, although ended up binge watching the last three episodes
The latest version with Anna Maxwell Martin not the 1985 one

We watched the film Knives Out the other night and enjoyed it. An old style Agatha Christie type murder mystery with a great ensemble cast. Definitely suitable for family viewing. Worth watching for Daniel Craig’s Deep South accent alone.

I’ve just started rewatching Peep Show again from the start. Does that count as feelgood? It is possibly the funniest thing ever filmed

I’m also a big fan of Early Doors

Just watched Go Karts on Netflix with my boys. Basically an Aussie clone of The Karate Kid, but about karting. No surprises anywhere but an enjoyable way to pass an hour and a half.

Agree with Parks and Recreation as well! The Good Place is done by the same folk and is also properly feelgood.

I always had Agatha christie stuff down as Poirot and Marple type nonsense, but the last few ones the Beeb have done have been brilliant. Pale horse was excellent.

    Knives Out +1
    Bleak House +1
    Pale Horse +1
    Peep Show +1

Again, if you can find it, ‘Dickensian’ that was on the Beeb a couple of years ago was really good.

Not box sets but 100 outdoorsy short films to watch, should appeal 👍

Whitehouse & Mortimer: Gone Fishing is worth a shout. Similar vibes to Detectorists. MrsMo & I have been using it as soporiphic coronavirus distraction at the end of the day.

+1 for Peep Show. Lots of series to go at. And Super Hans is a legend.

On the advice of this thread I started Parks and Recreation, massively underwhelmed! Then season two happened, now I’m nearly through season three… it’s utterly brilliant, what a perfect little series.

    Thank you STW.
