I always offer this up for people who claim that his voice spoils it; it’s not even the one you’d think of (and he sneaks in on backing vocals later anyway)

    Sandie Shaw and The Smiths

even better was their TOTP appearance; my Dad proclaiming that this’ll be better than the crap i call music, only to see Sandie writhing around the floor in a mini dress.

I’ll probably get ribbed for this, but I have always thought that Bono and Clannad’s ‘In a Lifetime’ was excellent.

Glad I clicked on the Op’s link as that’s what I was going to suggest ..I’ve always thought that was a fantastic track ..also like Run DMC / Aerosmith .
My offering is this Steven Wilson / Ninet Tayeb song from ” To The Bone “..( her album Paper Parachutes is worth an explore )

I absolutely adore this song! Two superb singers in perfect harmony, it doesn’t get much better than this.
I’ve seen them perform it live, and it was as good as the original recording, but then, I’d expect nothing less from these two.

I would have like this as a great pop tune, but the addition of one of my favourite radio presenters and lead singer of a great pop band makes it irresistible!

Then there’s Massive Attack with the sublime Hope Sandoval…

    …and with Tracy Thorn
