Right then, I’m torn between sticking a 29+ fork+tyre combo on my Inbred 29er or upgrading the whole shebang and either going for a Krampus or a Pugsley.

So the first question is, has anyone ridden a 29er with a standard rear and 29+ front?
Secondly, Surly have measured their Pugsley Geometry with a 740mm diameter tyre
which is the same (roughly) as 650b+ and 29(normal). So could I maybe have a do it all bike and use whatever wheels I fancy in a Pugsley?

Or am I just being mental?(i’ve already got a Banshee Prime 29er for everything else-this will be my silly days out and trail dog riding bike)

My Genesis Fortitude is set up as you describe:

It works well for what I want, but then again its not a gnarcore bike.

I ran my Inbred with a fat front:

It was okay but the 29+ works better as a front option in my opinion.

I have a proper fat bike and 29er+ bike and they are better in almost every regard than the half skimmed versions.

My 650b+ wheels are approximately the same height as my fat bike wheels (3”NN on Hugo rims vs Nates on Marge lites)

My 29er+ wheels and, with a Bud fitted, my Fat bike wheels are taller than a 650b+ wheel by a fair bit.

Not helpful to the OP and I’m showing my age, but the thread title reminds me of running these bad boys around 1991 😉

45mm dually + chronicle front, 35mm blunt + ardent 2.4 rear on my swift

    Thats a good compromise.

Sadly if your Inbred has the same clearance out back as mine a 2.25” tyre is more realistic.

A 2.4” Ardent on a Flow rim fitted in the back of mine but it was less than ideal and the Flow is hardly a wide rim.

Yeah my 29er is an older dual dropout one (slots with a gear hanger) and its a close fit with a 2.2 in there.
I’m thinking I may just sell the frame and carbon fork and put it towards a Krampus.

Inbred 29er, plus front (Chronicle on Blunt), 2.3 Purg on the back (56mm), although a wider 2.25 Smorg (58mm) will clear too.

    Love it 🙂

Are you sure it says Cliff Edge? It could be Club, or Clint, or …

I run my Jones spaceframe this way, but I really wish it would take a plus rear. In your shoes I’d sell up and go Krampus. Alternatively there’s a Singulair Rooster on the classifieds at a decent price. A couple of mates have them and really like them.

Just banged on a 26X3.00 on the front 26X2.2 rear end apparently gives me 650b my winter hack 🙂

Chronicle front Ardent rear on me Jones.
    Both on rabbit hole rims.
Much prefer this setup to the rolling d and bud I also have for it.

Frame only as I have most of the bits, including an alfine. Stooge say a lighter thinner rear is the way to go, so I might try that first

Anyone got experience or pics going from a pair of 2.1 to putting a 2.4 on the front?

chronicle/ardent is great in spring to autumn conditions, not so much in winter, drier times last year…

    not so dry this month

If a 2.4 will go in the back the a fat front is on the cards for me

I’m running a Stooge since last summer. All these are 29er tyres until the last one so here goes
I started with Rapid Robs at 2.25 wide, coz that is what the donor had.
Then put a 3 inch Knard on as a loan until I got a Chronicle for the front
I then put a Nobby Nic at 2.35 on the rear to cope with our 11 months of winter wet and mud.
I now have a fat 26×4 Mammoth on the front for winter

Ripping round the woods in the drier months probably the Chronicle/NN combination is best, while just now when everything is muddy and wet and slower the Mammoth is making life easier. What will be interesting is if I decide to stay half fat Stooge come April when things dry a bit.

Ideally, I’d have a Stooge with the Chronicle and NN set up and a Fat Bike

Stooge with Chronicle/Dually and Smorgasbord at the back is my main bike. It’s amazing.
