There was a thread a few weeks ago but too much waffle to wade through it. I have a couple of worn out bbs requiring attention (one Hope, one RaceFace cups/Enduro bearings).

    My options are-
1, Fit Enduro bearings/seals for £24 a set. Work well, last ok.
2, Fit el cheapo bearings of appropriate size and see what happens.
3, Buy a new set and wang ’em in, but prefer to re-use existing cups.
4, Buy a Deore chainset for £50ish, fit bb and use the rings (which i need too) and flog the cranks.

I am edging towards options 1 and 4 currently. Any better ideas?

Just buy a pile of cheap Deore BBs from the German websites?

Take care with the standard bearing route. Shimano are narrower and hope/enduro have a smaller bore.

With the hope at least, just put new hope bearings in.

    1) Probably not, heard mixed reviews of enduro bearings
2 / 3) Cheapo bearings tend to have crap seal and corrode easily, go for a name branded 6805 2RS / 61805 2RS bearing line Fag / INA or SKF
    4) Get an XT BB from Rose bikes for about £20 and flog the crank arms and Deore BB. enjoy well sealed smoothly spinning cranks for longer.

You could splash more on Hope or even Chris King, but I cant see that a King BB will outlive an XT BB by 7 or 8 times to justify the cost.

    Thanks for the input.

Ok, el cheapos was never going to happen!
I have used Enduros and they’re good, but SLX/XT jobbies from Germany is hard to argue with at £14.84 a set! Some postage on top but top price all the same.
