My mate Ollie has one and tries to XC on it but has admitted that it’s just too small- it’s too heavy, you have to have around a kilometre of seatpost showing and it’s a bit of a bugger to get up hills. It is a lot of fun downhill, though. He’s got an NS Surge now, as do 2 of my other mates.
My ride is the Evil Sov and it’s incredible. It’s a good climber- unlike the DOC you can just sit there and pedal away rather than having to stand up and hammer. Obviously it’s more geared up to DH and can put it’s hand to anything. I guess the closest thing at a reasonable price is a Dialled Alpine, but the sov is £600 now and I got mine from the states for less than the cost of a doc.
