Never really thought about it as our chickens have never written anything on their eggs 🙂

Seriously, we just eat them without thinking how old they are, can’t recall a bad one

thanks, just googled the float test, tried it and while doing it my 6 year old’s just told me if eggs are fresh they’ll sink. 🙄

    All ok.

Teach yer dad to float eggs…

Another method is to hold an egg and alternate quickly putting each end on your lips…….if eggs are ok one end is warmer than the other (apparently!)

Crack ’em open. If you go ‘jesus, what’s that bloody smell?!’ then they’re not safe to eat.

    HTH.

This is good advice and can be applied to a wide range of foodstuffs. Twenty years of the internet and we no longer trust our senses 😉

I’ll stick with the ‘float’ test, rather than smell a rotten egg by choice!

For eggs, “best before date” = “ready to make omelettes date”

Is eating an “off” egg dangerous though?

Salmonella (or whatever Edwina found) is there or it’s not Shirley?

Salmonella is more present in the shell I believe.

My mum kept eggs in the cupboard (not the bleedin fridge) and specifically wouldn’t bake with them until they were beyond their BB date 🙂

I never keep egg in the fridge, they should be at room temperature for use (as with all ingredients)

Plant them in the garden, in a week or so you will have some chickens, the chickens will lay you new eggs. I’m sure that’s how it works.

    😯

GENIUS! guessing that’s what an ‘egg-plant’ is then, seeing as i’ve never seen one in the shops! my god man you’re my new hero 😀

Eat them. If you’re all cramped up with horrible stomach pains, high fever and gravy for poo tomorrow, then they were off.

Yup. I found this awesome shop that no one had got to yet. Sign on the front said Binner’s House. Got loads of cool shit, eggs and whatnot….left all the kinky stuff tho. Guy seems a bit of a sicko.

    Finally…

Law of averages and all that 😀
