Oh I can see some of you getting excited, ready to rattle racist into your keyboard so I'm sorry to let you down.

I presume I can move freely within the EU. So where could I go to be an economic migrant, seeing as no one in the UK wants to employ me, perhaps someone on the mainland will.

Spain seems attractive but they are poorer per person than the UK I guess. I imagine Austria or Luxembourg are wealthy but that latter I imagine to be a bit dull. Portugal, Greece and Italy similar or worse than Spain. Denmark that's cold right. Do you think California would like to join the EU, they can be a special member.

    Anyway where is good?

Tails – I was getting all ready for a nice argument there.

Personally I doubt you will find much better in the EC although it depends what line of work you are in. Do you speak another language fluently / write it well?

You can go anywhere in the EC for work – no problem at all.

yeah that's sodding problem. I wonder if I could grow frankincense in portugal, and sell it to mugs down the king's road.

Not that much difference these days, at least in the major cities. The main problem is the massive unemployment rate, unless you've got something special to offer? What do you do?

I would look outside the EU, as mogrim says Spain's unemployment level is seriously screwed; Italy's job market is v nepotistic; France, well if you do get a job then you have to pay 50% of it in taxes pretty much; that leaves Germany, which in many ways is one of the best places to live in the world, but you need the language. Have you thought about South America? Chile is keen to attract IT specialists, and in some ways could be the new California (which is also screwed at the moment btw). Great quality of life in some of the coastal cities and a fairly stable government.

Strange you should mention chile i was hoping to visit there if I get a job. Whether I have skills to offer them I'm unsure, I'm not a IT specialist. My profession is as a designer, I trained formally in furniture design and also have some cabinet making skills. Although my last job was as a exhibition designer. They do, do some great social projects in south america, which I have always admired. My computer skills are mainly drawing programs from CAD to 3D modeling.

Chile has a rather protectionist stance I believe – so getting a work permit might be tricky and you would need to speak their version of spanish.

great country tho – I really liked it there and considered staying here but my lack of language skills meant I couldn't
