cleaned the bike (properly for the first time since i built it; it wasn’t clean then either) and i’m guessing there is a little water sitting somewhere in the front hub. i hear a little squeak as the front wheel turns.

the hub in question is ONYX 20mm.

had a look on DT website but couldn’t find a service guide for a 20mm hub.

    cheers

it is still sqeaking. tried to take it apart the other night but could not get to the bearings. infact i couldn’t get near anything. the outside caps don’t come away.

looked at a 15mm hub in the shop and the caps – i’m sure there is a better name for them – simply fell away from the hub body exposing the bearings.

stuck a fingerful of grease in there but to no avail.

    still squeaking.

only hear it at lower speeds (i.e. when climbing) and it’s getting annoying.

anyone help? i can’t get to the bearings because of the caps.

    ideas?

Sounds similar to the hub on my bike.

Take a look through the hub – do you see a small square cutout inside the axle? If so, support the hub and use a punch or similar in the cutout with a hammer to drive the axle out. Bearing and cap will come out with it – flip the hub over and drive the other bearing out.

Clean up, drift in new bearing and cap, install axle and remaining bearing and cap.
