Can you please suggest bands or individual songs in either (popular) rock or jazz genres with notable drummers, or at least good drum parts?

I always liked the style of Stewart Copeland of the Police, and was never impressed by the super huge kits used by some bands – especially, as I remember it, in the 1980s. I’m thinking primarily technique, not novelty.

Good call for Boredoms! 😀 At first I began to think Yoshimi was a one-trick pony, but was proven wrong.

A good workout/meditation is to be found on Vision Creation Newsun ‘~’. It’s unusual and completely addictive to play. Used drum it out for hrs on a dholak and the neighbours understandably grew to hate me. Good times!

Ian Paice noticed Keith Moon’s kit in the studio and ‘borrowed’ one of the kick drums for Fireball, which I think is a phenomenal piece of drumming.

A few of my favs are merv poppler and nik tig both of ozric tentacles. Pitty tig went on to play for jamiroquai!

Steve white (Paul wellers drummer) is also quality.

Oh and another top drummer is the bloke from Ride.. Loz? He may not be jaz technical but he’s got a great style.
