Finally did it. Things came to a crossroads at work and decided the best thing for my health, sanity and family life was to quit and start my own business.
Freelance yacht engineering specialising in electrics and electronics.
Been a long time coming and finally took the plunge. I have plenty of customer contact for work but its still a worry.

Congratulations on the change. My neighbour does just that and he’s always flat out with work so guessing there is plenty of demand.

Bloody good for you. Nice to hear of someone brave enough to take a plunge – I hope it works out at least as well as you hope!

Wishing you the best of luck.
    two small things
    1. Get a good accountant, NOW, their advise can save you thousands
2 Make sure you book holidays and stick to them
    Have fun

    Best wishes and well done.

    Best of luck to you.

I did it 14 months ago, leaving a stressful management job to go back on the tools, working for myself. It’s the best thing that happened to me in 22 years of working.

All the best – a brave move, and one I’d never have the balls to do.

    Good luck.
There are quite a few of us on here who are self employed. You’ll never stop worrying, but its so much better than working for someone else.

I’d really enjoy something like that i think, sounds nicely varied. I’d guess from your username you had something to do with the clipper race?

Being a new business you’ll probably be putting everything back into the business, which is generally a good policy.

However it can all get a bit stale if you do that, so also have a policy of rewarding yourself when you do a good deal (and have banked the money!). Doesn’t need to be anything big, along the lines of “If I pull this off, then I’ll get myself this”.

Best bit of business advice I ever got.

Good luck with your new venture 😉

My wife is teetering on starting a business venture too, hopefully it will make us rich and I can ride my bike everyday 😀

    Off to dream 😉

    Well done you 😉

Best thing i ever did was take vol. redundancy and start on my own, really don’t think i could have a boss again ❗

    Good luck.

Best of luck fella – from someone who did it nearly ten years ago.

I only have two pieces of advice:

Be scrupulously honest and straight up with your clients (sometimes this means you have to take a hit on a job).

Keep your head down and work hard at the beginning (you’ll be surprised how “lucky” you get when you work hard).
