  • Does Windstopper stop stopping wind?

I have a North Face jacket with Gore Windstopper fabric. Had it at least a couple of years. I remember being impressed with how it stopped windchill, but lately less so. Could be i have less ‘insulation’ than a couple of year ago but i wondered whether it could just be the fabric (or it’s Windstopper quality?) may just be gradually degrading over time like any other fabric. Any experience?

It shouldn’t. The Windstopper membrane doesn’t degrade like that.

i find it does. It is only a thin membrane sandwiched between two face layers. I think it is washing and if you aren’t careful drying. Flexing probably doesn’t help either.

Can you re proof it with a gortex wash in?

Re-proofing is only for waterproofing, not wind-resistance.

I had a scoot around the Nikwax site and there was zilch reference to restoring Windstopper properties, just waterproofing.
