Does anybody actually like Jazz?

Seriously? I just can’t believe anyone would listen to it through choice.

Our itunes at work is full of all sorts of stuff. Mountains of music of just about any genre. We have it stuck on shuffle all day. And I can listen to just about everything. Just about. But.. BUT.. Jazz? WTF?! its just endless, pointless noodling.

Does anyone actually enjoy this twoddle?

What musical genres do you find totally unfathomable?

Jazz mags or jazz tabs?

However for me its rap…… makes me want to slit my throat.

Yes, love it, from Cannonball Adderly to Donald Byrd, even like the experimental jazz prog of Soft Machine. Can’t abide thrash metal, mega whatever, Barber shop singers are pretty awful too. Each to their own.

Skalpel are worth checking out if you dont like jazz

It’s similar to asking if someone likes rock music. I like some Jazz and dislike some.

Metal that is just thrash. What’s the point, there’s no structure there. Boring.

Talking about Aphex Twin on the other thread made me think of this but it isn’t ground breaking enough to get a mention. Then a kind soul comes along and gives me a chance to post this, enjoy…

Did anyone see the attempts to shut up the jazz twaddle on Jools Holland on Tues night? They would carried on for hours I’m sure. Bit of bad planning that, should stuck the jazz trio on last surely and then just faded them out.

realman i think you need to listen to more than 20 seconds to get an idea what DEP are all about

its about the farthest thing from plain old boring thrash i can think of that is still “metal”

Yes, some of it – it’s a pretty wide genre.

The Fast Show sketches are funny, I think the Mighty Boosh Jazz Trance was the best though

Yeah, I was going to mention that. Did you catch Jools’ face shortly before he interrupted them? He looked like he’d got a poo wedged.

Love loads of jazz records, equally there are plenty that I can’t stand. Dismissing an entire musical genre because the Fast Show made fun of it is just stupid.

Look, if any of your favourite artists you can take a song from The Sound of sodding Music and imbue it with this much passion and yearning, post it up at once, OK?

In terms of musical genres I don’t “get”, all the dubstep I’ve heard to date sounds like crap drum ‘n’ bass records played at the wrong speed. It doesn’t follow, though, that the whole genre is worthless.

As far as Dub step I’d much rather the UK yoot were creating their own sound rather than imitating the lame mainstream hip hop coming out of the US.

Several years ago I had a bit of an epiphany when I listened to Giant Steps by John Coltrane.

Trouble is, it sort of locked my jazz preferences into Bop.

I was listening to Dexter Gordon’s Our Man in Paris driving home last night. Brilliant.
