    As in ordnance survey equivalent showing topography etc.
    Does anyone know if this exists – preferably free but understand it may have to be paid for.

    Opentopo on locus maps is good.

    Tabacco maps are the Italian equivalent of ordnance survey.

    The link above walks you through how to download open source maps to your Garmin. I used them in the Dolomites this year year and found them pretty good.
