Devon JOBS- any heads up for geology/environmental/similar positions?
Recently returned from travelling so hunting for a job.
BSc in Environmental Earth Science, years experience and excellent references as an exploration geologist (coal) in Aus.
Lots of experience in most relevant aspects of Earth Science related work and lots of good references.
Does anyone know of any work or places to look please?
Based currently in Exeter but will travel 😀Posted 4 years agoBig DaveMember

Most of the big environmental consultancies in the UK are busy setting themselves up with partners in Aus at the moment as a lot of the big contracts than used to exist in the UK have started to dry up as government budgets get cut. Not a problem in the land down under apparently.
The Environment Agency has had to deal with a whole load of cut backs in the last couple of years so jobs are thin on the ground there at the moment.

find every environmental consultancy within the area you want to work, send them a cv and cover letter explaining what you can offer and what you are looking for. Neither of the two large consultancies I’ve worked for really advertise any positions unless they are stuck, its all CVs coming in through existing staff, word of mouth etc. Speak to all the environmental agencies too like allen & york. If you would be interested in going as far as London or Scotland I’d be interested in your CV.Posted 4 years agoMacavityMemberPosted 4 years agogwaelodMember
Met Office HQ is in Exeter and recruits earth science graduates.
I know one bloke who was recruited by them after sending in his CV – it was for a very niche role thoughPosted 4 years agoioloMember

Find out who their Directors are (call reception and ask).
Send your CV in by post together with a covering letter fao the Director.
Do not email CV’s, they get deleted unless there is a job you suit exactly at that time.
Be prepared for many no’s.
If you do get asked for an interview research as much as you can about the job and especially about the company. It shows you are serious about working for them.
Getting a job is not so easy these days but the jobs are still there, just a lot harder to get.
