Why the love for Pete’s Eats? The food is dull, service rubbish and you sit there for hours waiting

True. It’s not as good as it used to be.

This thread came along at a good time ahead of our own family hol in north Wales. We’re just back and had a great hol – thanks to contributors for ideas/suggestions. All the following were ideal with our 4 and 6yr olds:

Harlech Castle: pretty good castle, great views, kids love just poking around ruins.

Llechwedd Slate Mine: above and below ground tour lasted all morning. Tour guide was an ex-miner in his 60s who’d worked there and had great stories. Excellent.

Portmerion is a nice day out, interesting place.

Trawsfynydd reservoir: nice cycle around the reservoir, only a few mins ride from campsite in Gellilydan. Interesting with the reactors there too.

Mawwdach trail (Dolgellau-Barmouth): absolutely perfect traffic-free cycle with the kids and a great beach at Barmouth. Pop into Evans Motors in Dolgellau to ogle whatever rally cars Gwyndaf has on display.

Coed y Brenin: blue route superb for family, our 6yr old rode almost all of it herself with the younger one on Follow Me tandem. We returned later to ride solo, thoroughly enjoyed the Beast.

Zip World Fforest Coaster and Treehopper, both great but ££££.

Caernarfon Castle: probably best castle we’ve visited, not a bad choice on a wet day either.

Centre for Alternative Technology: what a great place – loved it as did the kids, plenty to see and do.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth, meh but the kids enjoyed and it was a good shout on a crappy wet day.
