- Daniel Hegarty passed away…
I’m not a motorcycling fan but I had heard of Daniel and I love motorsport.
Very sad day. 🙁Posted 3 months agoweeksySubscriber
I used to take him and his caravan to BSB meetings when he was racing in the R6 cup.
He was the first person I told when me and Mrs Weeksy got back together after splitting up once upon a time. We arrived at Donington to pit crew for him in a Superstock race.
I’ve not seen him for a few years but back in the day me and Dan spent a lot of time together. I gave him a good hiding on the squash court a few times when he spent a few weeks with me and Mrs Weeksy in reading
He was the cause of me braking my wrist one time at Donny. We were all out in Fast, me, him, Couchie and a few mates, “you’re shit on the brakes Weeksy, you need try watch me and I’ll show you when to brake” says Dan.
Next lap out I think “right you fker I’ll show you” brakes later and stuffed it in the floor! !
Dan and couch fixed my bike and sent me out, I only managed 4 laps though, it transpired I’d broken my wrist in 2 places.
Epic days of watching him on his Steelie destroying the new 600s at Derby Phoenix.Posted 3 months ago
Bike racing is a passion of mine & I love road racing but there’s no way I’d do it.I reckon the only thing that comes near road racing for attrition is high altitude mountaineering. You can take a group photo of them & watch how over the years they fade away..Posted 3 months ago
That said, the other day I was watching something from the Isle of Man & a rider commented that most who do it once come back for another go.It must be one hell of a rush & they know what they’re getting into.sobrietyMember
RIP Dan. Only ever spoke to him on the phone, but he seemed like a thoroughly decent chap when I did. He could’ve charged me more for a job that he subbed out but told me where to send my crank instead.
I’ve got to wonder if the bike failed, given the troubles they’ve had with the fireblade SP2 this season.Posted 3 months ago
