Hmmm? We have friends in Swaledale and whilst they say it has been raining hard, and there is standing water in fields and flooded rivers they have not heard of houses being flooded.

WTF – even the bloody fire station was flooded at Leyburn whilst the crews were out saving other properties! Of course properties have been flooded.

They obviously don’t have a TV or internet….

You’d have to believe Sarawak even has friends.

Anyway.  On here we have tradesman, shop owners and all round generous kind people who’ve we’ve all seen help out each other in the past. I’m sure we can do the same for FFJA perhaps someone who lives close by would be best to organise some supper setup.

I have 2 daughters so what does your daughter need or what would she like to help her?

Thinking longer term @FFJA … (because I think/hope you’ll find all the help possible coming to the area, and to you, in the next few months) … count me in with helping in anyway to make Xmas great for the little ‘un. We’re all thinking of you both, and your neighbours, at this time.

    Good shout Drac.

Should have lots of clothes for a 5year old girl I can get sent over.

I’d chip in money, I’d imagine it’s needed. I can’t spare clothes or kit and I’m not local so I can’t put him up. I would though.

EDIT 5 year old girl you say? I probably have clothes but not too many. Let me know if you’re short. Also, what shoe size? I probably have wellies too, I’d offer them but it sounds like a tasteless joke so…

******* hell Drac, you just me guffaw in the office! Comment of the thread imo.

It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation to people’s homes and businesses.

I’d be very much up for donating / helping out.

    PHOTOS: Flooding in Swaledale

Looks grim, hope you got somewhere dry to kip last night. New fridge due here later on today, if you want my old beer fridge (little undercounter thing, bit shabby but works), I’ll save it for you and take a run up with it when you have working power and roads.

His previous username Shibboleth was banned for similar bellendery, hard to believe he’s been allowed to stay here despite mods being notified.

We’re sorting clothes my daughter’s grown out of this week.

Has the OP said what size he is? Assuming it’s a fella of course.

I’d presume most clothes would be upstairs? (if so get them out quickly it won’t take long for stuff to start going mouldy upstairs) If anything like my experience it’ll be sofa, rugs, vac, laptop, hifi, shoes, toys, soft furnishings and carpets type stuff. OP might be able to salvage a lot of stuff, it’s just soft toys, soft furnishings, carpets that must be disposed of. If it’s any consolation OP, I came to the conclusion that I could have managed if I hadn’t had contents insurance. I recon I could have replaced all I lost for a few hundred quid off ebay (sofas go for peanuts and plenty of wealthy people sell them in like new cond.), maybe not including carpets. If you own the house, lets hope you have buildings insurance otherwise you are in a bit of a pickle, good luck.

    Bloody hell that’s pretty bad.

After looking at those pics above, the only question I have is ‘How bad does it have to get before this lad and his family stops smiling?’

As above, if OP has any pressing need then people on here will pitch in.

If someone sets up money pool/gfm page I’ll happily drop some cash in too.

I’m time rich but cash poor at the minute. Happy to donate my time next week though in any way shape or form. (Embarrassingly I’ll have to Google where in the country this is!)

That genny in the field looks stuffed! At least looks like people managed to move their caravans/ campers in time. Good luck to all affected…awful thing to happen.

@martinhutch – I don’t know who he is but I reckon he’d be a good bloke to have a pint or 6 with.

Bloody hell! Feel for you OP. Nothing worse than a disaster, on whatever level, to **** you over. Hope you’re both doing OK at the moment.

Haven’t got much to give, and unfortunately can’t get to you to help out but have a good couple of recycling bags full of 5-6 and 6-7 girls clothes I can send your way. Only sorted them all out a couple of weeks ago and haven’t taken them to the charity shop yet. Alternatively, if you want a few days break to get away from it all, I’d happily put you up in sunny(ish) Carmarthen.

Looks like Stu in the Bike Centre might be a bit damp as well! Bit ironic as I was talking to him in Reeth 2 weeks ago after I finished a ride dressed as a drowned rat.

There is a pic on the Daily Mail’s article with a chap with an ‘Ard Moors Enduro’ t-shirt – water level was above light switch height – good grief.

Those pics look horrendous 🙁 Everything crossed the pets turn up OK.

Not much use but I’ve got a spare double bed (disassembled and no mattress) if yours is gone (or goes mouldy). But it’s in Reading (anyone driving up that way in a van or big estate car?).

Think there’s also a 2 seater sofa and maybe a bed in storage in Derby of mine but they might have been tipped as I said I didn’t want them back.

Surely that’s a mistake. Hasn’t it already been confirmed (due to one poster being told by a mate that doesn’t live in the effected villages and towns telling him they only had light rain somewhere else)?

Being the DM I imagine it was the worst example they could find and the filthy cyclist was to blame for the whole thing.

OP, let me know if you need any blokes’ clothing etc too. Or are you OK for that and just left the house without extra stuff.

Anyway, when you’ve had a moment, just list anything (and everything, if you don’t ask…) you need a hand with replacing or fixing and we can all see what we can do.

Looked into the paypal pool thing. Looks like you have to be a trustworthy sort, as initially the money goes straight to the person raising it.

In the vain hope that people might think I’m trustworthy, I’ve set one up for FFJA.

I’m sure the offer of s/h stuff will be well received, but if people wanted to give what appears to be some much-needed financial help you can go here:

Good man! I was reluctant to set it up for that exact reason and I am financially illiterate. couple of quid bunged in

should we have a sticky thread? any surplus cash to go to help out others?

It’s great to see there are still some decent human beings about amongst the selfish, uncaring lot. Dreadful situation, and I hope it goes some way towards helping.

Mods – is it possible to make this a sticky? Would be good for more folks to see. Perhaps we can chip and do something for the OP and the wider population affected?

Agreed, if the op doesn’t want the cash, I’m sure the local community will.

Don’t know the OP or have any connection to the area. But having read through some of his previous posts I hope this doesn’t jeopardize any access arrangements for his daughter. Donated on that basis, hope you get back up and running ASAP and when you can you should post up a list of essentials you need.

I know the OP through work and can confirm all he has said is accurate.

JA, maybe get something put out through the Update Bulletin as I’m sure anyone will help however they can. I’m happy to come and slap some paint about when the house dries out mate.
