- cyclocross bike bar brake levers
The only time I used them when I had a cross bike was when on the road if my hands were on the flats. Offroad my hands were far too narrow and I felt I had no control on rough or twisty stuff. If the terrain's fairly flat use the hoods (braking on the hoods with canti's will control you but it's not great for stopping), or if descending on the drops.Posted 8 years agocrazy-legsSubscriber
For proper CX racing then no, you don't use or need them.Posted 8 years ago
For everything else – commuting, touring, casual off-road, even the Three Peaks CX they're great. An extra hand position for safe gentle cruising along a canal towpath or a similar place where walkers/dogs are always around.phiiiiilSubscriber
I removed mine – they were too close together to use with any degree of stability, and (most importantly) my light wouldn't fit on with them taking up all the handlebar space.
The only time I used them was for holding the bike still while I locked the front door when going out (as I discovered the day after I had them removed and accidentally threw the bike across the garden!)Posted 8 years ago
